    New CA handgun laws?

    Hello the fire.
New to this forum, coming over from TFL (thefiringline forums) to ask some specific CA related items.
Did not know whether to post this in politics or handguns, because the question related to handguns only. Modertators feel free to move if this is not in the correct forum.

What are the new laws restricting purchase of HANDGUNS in 2008.
Did the requirement for magazine disconnect pass, and will that only apply to when guns apply for their new approve list rating?

Or point me to where I can look up all the new 2008 handgun laws. Search all over with google, and CRPA site, but could not find this info.
I wish to purchase my semi's before they require internal locks, chamber indicators and magazine disconnects.
    Thanks,
    HVR

no new handguns are going to be aproved without the disconnect. some companies might raise hell over the fact that glock got around the law after it was passed.

The magazine disconnect and loaded chamber indicator requirement took effect a bit ago. No gun currently on the roster has to come off but all new guns added have to have both features. The rest of the laws relating to handguns that go onto the books this year don't take effect until 2010 at the earliest.

        Thanks,
Does that meana that the expiration date on the roster indicates that they will need to be reapproved with the loaded chamber and disconnect?
So just for example if I looked and saw that a Kahr Mk9 ended it's approval on July, 2008, means that I should purchase before that date to avoid the BS?
        Thanks for any help!

No, that date is just when the manufacturer has to pay the state $$$ to renew it's listing for another (2?) years. The "safe handgun" list is just an extortion tool which the state uses to help fill its coffer's.

All double-action revolvers must be certified.

Single action are exempt from the certification list.

So what you're saying is, the ability to buy new DA revolvers in CA is going the way of the dinosaur. I don't see how a revolver can indicate it has a round chambered any better than it naturally does, but I imagine it needs a "flag" or other such stupid indicator, eh? I assume the "magazine disconnect" won't apply. But maybe I'm mistaken.

__EDIT__ Just read the actual law. Disconnects and loaded chamber indicators apply only to semi-autos. Makes sense that it doesn't apply to revolvers. I just didn't expect CA to make sense.

Magazine disconnects are unnecessary for revolvers. As are LCIs, as you noted.

The biggest issue with revolvers making the list is cost, as EACH model has to be tested and certified. There are LOTS of variations from S&W. Thankfully they've been very good and diligent about submitting them!
