.40 Compensated recommendation

I had (and sold) a Springfield ported 1911 as pictured above. There was a 100 fps drop in muzzle velocity compared to a standard 5 inch 1911 (Dan Wesson PM7) by my own chrono testing. The ported 5 inch gun had the same muzzle velocity as my commander size 1911. I really could not feel much of difference in recoil though between the ported and non-ported 5 inch 1911, but that was with standard loaded 45 ACP ammo.

If you buy a "tactical" glock with the ports in the slide and barrel, then you just buy a standard, non-ported second barrel from any of several on-line retailers. My friend did this and it worked great. He now only shoots with the standard barrel as the ports make the gun dirtier and thus more cleaning is involved. Also ports let the gases and muzzle flash come up next to the front sight. This actually can slow down follow up shot accuracy in low light situations.

After having ported guns in the past, I have sold them all. How many SWAT/Police/Military agencies use ported guns in everyday service? If the round/ammo is too hot for you, then go down in caliber or pressure. The ports will drop bullet performance.

They will run fin on Walmart ammo. I shot bowling pins for years in competition on light loads and a highly compensatated/ tricked 1911.

What you are talking about is ported, not compensated.

This is compensated, it takes very hot ammo to make it cycle. these guns will not run on WW box

Thank you very much for your real life experience. It helps a lot. I'll go shoot a couple of .40s at my local range (they rent) and go from there.

What gun and caliber where you running? And where did you shoot bowling pins at? I have not seen a pin match in years... You might want to try WW box today, it is not the same.

Compensated 1911 .45 in Orange County and more years ago than I care to remember. My loads were reduced for the sport and ran springs 5lb's weaker than stock to compensate for the difference. And as much as I shoot I can guarantee you I know the differences in ammo. I don't know why everybody disses white box unless they are just spewing what they hear from gun stores that charge more.

I own the V-10 as well as a Glock 20C (hence my name on here), and I love the way they both shoot. You can really notice the difference as you move up in caliber/hotness of loads like with the 10mm
