    Range report #2 - .38spl practice ammo

This morning I was at Burro Canyon trying out some different 125 grain .38 practice ammo. I was using 3 targets on 2 frames set at about 15 yards. I would shoot 6 of each from my Ruger GP 100 4" barrel then change ammo and alternated around until I had used 18 rounds of each ammo. Not scientific I know but the best I can do. I was shooting free hand, no bench rest or other aids. (Why 15 yards? I do not think that I would need a handgun for defensive purpose much beyond this range.)

    1. Sellier & Belliot 125 grn. full metal jacket - Tended to be a bit high and to the left with a fairly tight grouping. A somewhat smokey round.

    2. Speer Lawman 125 grn. FMJ. These tended to be just a very little high and to the right, once again, fairly tight groupings. I did have one "flyer" from this group no hole on the target. Probably was my bad, but who knows?

    3. Last test group of the day was the Remington 130 grain FMJ. As a group just a tiny bit high and to the right of the target. Grouping about as good as this guy can shoot them at that distance. They also seemed to be the cleanest of the tested rounds.

Finished up shooting some .357 just for the heck of it and a little .22 for fun.

Future tests will have to wait as I will not venture up to BC on a weekend due to crowds. I intend to test the Magtech and Independence lines of practice ammo in .38 and .357.
