    Just introducing myself

Hello everyone. I just want to say hi to the whole forum and introduce myself. My first question is regarding an FFL transfer. I'm looking to buy this Charter Arms Off Duty .38, 2" snubnose on the internet. I'm aware of the FFL fees and the CA firearms roster but when I looked at the Charter Arms section all it said was black/stanless steel, alloy - revolver - 2" - .38 - exp. 10/5/06. Is this okay? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Welcome aboard- Your question is rather a sticky one as the revolver in question has been manufactured by about four different entities over the years and it depends on which one you're considering buying is from.

I believe you have two different companies named Charter Arms, then you have Charco, and then Charter 2000 so a lot depends on the particular weapon. I believe the list shows Charter 2000 (Charter Arms) and makes no mention of Charco so you need to check and also it doesn't mention the revolver name (only model number) so you need to find out the model number. Most importantly you need to find an FFL that will handle the transaction and then they need to satisfy themselves as to the list legality of the weapon or get a finding from DOJ on it. Good luck, the Undercover is an ok revolver but not one I'd be willing to jump through a lot of hoops for unless you are a collector or iut holds some other value to you.

It's actually an Off Duty. There's no model number to indicate if it is on the list or not so I printed out the ad and the Charter Arms page of the roster and I'm bringing it to a gun shop to see what can be done. I've owned an off duty before and it's a great gun. The deal on this was so good I couldn't pass it up. Another weird thing that caught my attention is that I went to a store in the Sacramento area and they had a Charter Arms Undercover .38 spl. (brand new) for sale yet I didn't find that one on the list. I'm starting to get confused.

The factory has assigned a model number to its weapons and that is what they were submitted to California as (model numbers are on Charter Arms website). Your FFL will have to satisfy themselves that the model number applies to the weapon you are trying to buy.

I too owned a Charter Arms Undercover which is why I say it is an ok revolver within a price point.

Just and update. I've decided to drop the idea of bringing in this Charter Arms revolver as I've run into too many dealers that are too iffy to give the okay, which I completely understand. I'll probably hunt around for a used Rossi or even a newer Charter Arms and save the hassle. I've even opened up to the idea of getting a .357 so that I might have that versatility. Thanks for those who helped.

I'm waiting for Charter to submit (if they haven't) their Pathfinder model in .22 magnum. Now that is a weapon I've wanted for years and we in California only have one option in a DA .22mag. I personally want to support Charter arms by buying something as we need more strong U.S. Firearms companies.

All other .22 revolvers available in california are either single action or extremely expensive (ie. S&W 317, 617, 351PD, or Ruger KSP-241). It would be nice to have an affordable 6-shot .22 LR or .22 WMR available for home defense (Perfect for the wife or GF). Load them suckers up w/ some CCI shot shell and you have yourself a very potent weapon.
