Was it just the top of the barrel?
    Sorry to see this.
It does look rather clean and new everywhere else!
Have read a few threads about Kimbers having rust and still new!

They rust because Kimber, for whatever reason, seems to think that it's a good idea to leave bare steel.

Glad there wasn't any permanent damage or pitting, OP.

we use it on stained surgical instruments, over time they become rusted, stained, etc...we use this as it works fast with little scrubbing and comes right off with water and dosent damage delicate instruments in anyway. i have used this stuff on widows with watermarks that nothing will take off and this stuff takes it right off. if you know anyone close who works int he medical field and the use Steris equipment or products im sure they can get you a bottle.

to be honest i have no idea, and i would not want to find out the hard way. it does not hurt the finish on our instrumemts.

I could see this stuff working on steel/stainless types stuff (like surgical equipment) but I wonder if it would effect a blued type finish.

                    O well.

Where are the "made inthe USA kimber guys"?

I had the same problem and had to use flitz on my kimber 1911... Seems like Kimber should care a little more about their end product.

It's a common issue with newer Kimbers. I spent a day while working for a LGS as an armorer cleaning flash rust like that from Kimber barrels. No other pistol in the same display case exhibited it.

You've caught it before it could become a problem, well done! Keep the barrel oiled, check frequently to ensure it doesn't dry out, and it's not a huge problem. You could have the barrel coated or plated which would end the problem permanently.
I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy!

I've never had an issue with my made in the USA Kimber.

Oddly enough, I've seen a lot of surface rust develop on Kimber barrels. Something with their steel I would assume.

You'd think for $1K+ they could afford to schmear a little oil on things...
