    XD vs. XDM

I've read thread about which one to get...XD or XDM...but what I want to know is how do they compare in terms of ergonomics and the way they fire? Similar? Different? And in what ways?

I did a quick search to see if this was covered but I didn't find anything...so if there is something I apologize for my weak searchfu....

I have fired an XDm .40 and I own an XD .40, to me they feel and shoot the same. The XDm, which costs a little extra, needs to be single shot exempted, which can cost an extra $100 on top of the gun.

Personally I shoot my XD better but that's probably due to owning it for over a year.

XDm, looks nicer, and bragging rights. I know the M has a chrome lined match barrel.

No significant difference. The M basically means prettier and more expensive.

Its supposed to have an improved trigger and better barrel. I like they way they look.

Id like to get the new single stack .45 and the 9mm 5.25 Comp when I get a chance.

I have a XD9, XDm4.5 and XDM5.25. theM's have longer sight radius that helps too. better ergonomics, adjustable grips, match barrels extended mag releases. the trigger wiight is about 1 to 1.5 pounds less and the trigger rest is half the distance of my XD. I enjoy shooting the M's better.

Xdm does look better and the adjustable grips are a big plus. The trigger on it is loooong so get ready to upgrade it. I would wait for a deal on a used one instead of paying a whole lot more for a new one. I feel like I over paid for mine now that I've owned it for over a year. At this point I would rather get a M&P pro and upgrade it with a apex FSS.

If you get the xdm in 9 mm you have to deal with the mag conversion from 19 down to 10and for me it was a pain. So I got the xdm in .45 which uses the xd 10 round stock mag and things are better.

I have shot the xd and I own an XDm. For those who say there is no difference, maybe it's true for them. For me, it was enough difference to buy one over a P226 and a P229.

                  Both guns that I love.

Not until you get to the 5.25 XDM does the M shine over a standard XD IMO. I have a 9mm XD sub -compact, XD .45 Tactical and an XDM40 5.25 competiton model. By far, in my opinion the XDM 5.25 is the better gun. That said, getting one in CA is a pain, SSE and all, not to mention magazine alterations/modifications for the restricted capacity.
The biggest asset of the M 5.25 is it's adjustable rear sight. The fixed sight models both XD and XDM still require maximum effort to adjust or replace.

I have an XD45 and XDM 4.5" 9mm. Love them both. XDM seems to shoot much more accurately (about on par with my 92FS, and quite a bit better than my SP2022). The differences between the XD's though may also be caliber-related. The XD45 is the first .45ACP I've owned and the firing characteristics are deffinitely different from 9mm. In terms of erganomics and handling though, they are nearly identical (one of the reasons I wanted to get the XD45 in the first place). If I had to do it over again, I would have gotten the 5.25 XDM (wasn't available when I got mine). And who knows, I might sell my XDM 4.5 for a 5.25 some day. I love both of them equally though and would be just as happy with either.

None of them are chrome lined. Also, chrome lined and match don't go together.
