I've had both Gen 3 G17's and Gen4 G17's. I personally prefer the G17 Gen4 without the back straps which is a bit thinner. Other than the grip size I didn't find much difference between the two generations.

I had a G17 Gen4 with the original recoil spring that was troublesome for a few people online but not for me. I shot different types of ammo, sometimes mixed up and in the same magazine(cheap, hollowpoint, target, etc.) and had no malfunctions what so ever. I replaced the spring because Glock was giving them out for free so what the hell. When I received the new spring, the only difference I felt was the slide was a bit smoother and easier to pull back.

To tell you the truth, those that had too much problems with the Gen4 G17's either got a factory lemon( this happens even with the most high end manufacturers of handguns out there) or were jerking off before heading out to the range. Limp wristing is NOT the platforms fault, it is YOUR fault, I've got a friend who can jam any gun and even unwillingly bump fire a 44 mag! plenty of times we've been like WTF did you just do?

With that said, no I am not a complete Glock fanboy. Unlike most who choose Glocks or 1911's, I like both Glocks(21 & 17) and Colt 1911's and BOTH are my favorite handguns. I've shot Sig's, one of my buddies has one, I've shot it plenty and they were good but I prefer the simplicity of the Glock 17 9mm over the Sig 226. I'm not saying Glocks are better because I own one, I could easily sell my Glocks and buy sigs but the simplicity of these things is just amazing.

Glocks are NOT for everyone but if you can properly shoot a Glock you can shoot anything.

I've shot quite a few Sigs. The only one that ever blew me away was a West German 226 - the rest were okay, but not worth their asking prices, IMO.

        I'll pick Glock every time.

Shoot both and see which one your better with, you might hate how either one feels.

Out of every handgun I've ever shot the P226 fits me the best and is my go too for any situtaion. Though I must admit the HK45 came in a close second.
I would try them out but personally the Sig wins hands down for me.

I have a Glock 17 and a Sig 226 in .40. I prefer the Glock. The Sig fits my hand perfect but I just dont care for the way it shoots. The 9mm 226 is probably better.

Either one is a great choice.

Honestly, it's a coin toss for me. I would gladly keep either one in my nightstand. In fact, I have. But it's the 226 that currently sleeps there.

In terms of shooting, each gun has its advantages. I think it's easier to shoot the Glock faster, but I shoot more accurately with the SIG.

One recommendation I would make: try the SIG with the E2 grip installed. It transforms the gun IMO. That plus the SRT takes the wind out of the Glocks sails.

In the end, you're not going to be disappointed with either. I'd probably buy the SIG first just to get the bigger purchase out of the way.
Then another horse PONY came out, a fiery red one. Its rider was given power to take peace from the earth and to make men slay each other. To him was given a huge sword. My kinda guy.

Have both in multiple copies. The Sig is a nicer gun to use than the glock. It's more refined if you know what I mean. Functionally, both designs have been very reliable in my experience (over 15 years of shooting both). The DA/SA capability of the sig might be worth something extra to some people over the Glock.

It comes down to personal preference. If one feels better in your hands, and operates smoother to you, then that's the one. My guess is that it will be the Sig

Not really... performance-wise, both will serve you well. Finish and overall durability I'd give it to the Glock. Sig definitely looks better if thats all you're really using as a comparison. If measurable performance is all you care about (seeing how you made a car analogy), one can even argue that the Glock is potentially a better performer in competition.

Both are proven handguns and don't mind those who think just because the P226 costs more, its a better gun. Its really dependent on the individual. I've owned 4 Sigs and currently own none. Still own Glock. Glocks work for me better than any Sigs I've handled. People automatically will vouch for a Sig because of the price and they might think its a more "refined" handgun just because it's got a classier look to it as well as all that metal just feeling great in one's hand. I see the Glock as refined due to its engineering in making such an elegantly simple handgun.

Listen to those that say try both out extensively before deciding. Don't look past CZs either.

They are both great guns like others have said. It is all about personal preference. For a house gun the DA/SA system on the Sig is the deal breaker. The simplicity of the Glock is what I love about them. Now if Sig would put a Glock trigger system in the 226 that would be love. Many would disagree but I could not think of a finer setup.
