Quick question about trading vs selling

This may be obvious and I'm just missing something, but why do people list guns as "trade only" and give a list of a few guns they want to trade for.

Isn't the chance of finding someone with exactly what you want AND is willing to trade for what you have a long shot (no pun intended)??

Why not just sell it outright then buy. Both would be PPT transfers and therefore not trigger (again no pun intended) the 1 in 30??

Is it just to save the DROS and transfer fees, or am I missing something here.

    Thanks in advance . . .

Sometimes money from a sold gun ends up being spent on a non gun purchase. By doing a trade you eliminate that possibility. I don't think fees enters into it, I traded a C&R rifle for a S&W revolver, I had to pay DROS, he didn't.

It has to do with selling a "used gun" means that you are bound to lose cash. Example: you pay 700 out the door for a Glock 17 and can only sell it for $500. Instead people like to trade their Glock 17 for something else they want like a Glock 19 maybe. That person also paid around $700 for that pistol at some point also so you don't really in a sense take a loss. That's if you just always trade and don't sell. In a trade both of the party's guns have lost $$ value usually so it just eliminates the feeling of selling a $700 pistol for $500 to then go buy a $700 pistol. Then your out $400. Trades rule.

That's what I was thinking except if you buy for $700 and sell for $500. You now have $500 to go guy from anyone who also bought for $700 and is now selling for $500. Just seems like you will have more options with $500 in your pocket than if you have to find a trade partner.

Just seems like selling yours then buying would be faster/easier.

Also very true but then it moves into SoCal Bobs point, money seems to drift around when sitting in your pocket. I personally prefer trades, as I don't personally believe in "selling" a firearm. Just doesn't seem right.

Personally I think its just due to laziness, the person doesn't want to go through the hassle of looking for a gun they want to buy. If they list it as a trade they can be the seller and the buyer in one go, and god forbid they have to go do a PPT on two separate occasions.

Despite my little time on this forum I've found that even when being relatively specific for a trade, someone has on here has what you're looking for and is willing to negotiate a trade. Just my 2 cents...

LOL! I've had the same question bouncing around my brain for a while.

So, no real difference, it's an issue of preference.

i like the ads that read like this
                  "fs/ft gen 4 glock 19"
sale price $650. trade value $700

ok. ill let you add to the price of your gun if we trade. but id expect you to be cool with me doing the same.
Iam a good shot. At least i think i would be. Iam a good free throw shooter.

Also, they could be looking for an off roster gun and this way they dont have to do a sse to get it.
