Ruger SR22 grip removal..

Really? it's like they glued the damn thing on there. It barely moves a hair when I pull. Is there a trick of some kind to get it off the gun? You can't really use any tool since it would gouge the plastic.

Why couldn't they just use a small drift pin like normal people?

Check your SR22 is unloaded. Remove magazine and double or even triple check that it is unloaded. Turn pistol upside down, grasp grip and PULL! It does come off, it is a little tough but I have skinny arms, I can barely curl 125 at the gym and if I can do it, so can you, it's a little tough but not that hard.

I think I have an extra tight one.. guy at the store couldn't do it either.. I guess there are detents that snap, but I'm 6' 195 and I can barely wiggle it much move it.

I got a little lube in there (web reccomendation) and then pulled like a mutha.. it finally popped off.. the larger one went on an off much more easily.. the small one (due to design) is much stiffer so it's harder to remove.

I modded the detents on the small grip.. not only takes moderate effort.

The trick is to try your hardest to apply no sideways squeezing pressure while you're pulling at it. Also, try to wiggle it front to back while pulling. Got mine off pretty easily doing it that way

I think the heat gun warming it up helped more than the lube..

I must say the tolerances are tight, it really doesn't "wiggle" at all.

So far it's a nice little gun.. wife really likes it.

Correct. It doesn't wiggle at all. But if you use that technique and motion out should come off.

Check your barrel retaining nut. There was a batch that went out from Ruger with loose barrels. Chances are yours is past those serial numbers but I would check it to be safe.

It is a great little gun, really enjoying mine.

IIRC, you have to move the slide rearward or lock the slide back.

Barrel does not have a retaining "nut" it is held on by a screw!
It's funny why the barrel is mentioned on this thread, this thread is about the grip, I don't understand why people kept on mentioning the barrel loosening up, that only happened on the 1st batch, the issue have been addressed by Ruger long time ago.

3 tips

1. make sure you remove the magazine(sounds stupid, but I have seen people do it)

2. Pull, don't squeeze.

3. Pull at the angle of the frame, not straight down

should be pretty easy then.

Thanks for the correction. I just thought that as a new SR22 owner, he may have not been aware of that first batch, also it is possible (but unlikely) that he could have bought one that was stashed away in a back room that was from the first batch. I certainly checked mine.

I think people mention the loose barrel because it could be a big deal, it's not cosmetic, it could be serious, even with a .22
