    ROSSI .357 m971 PLEASE HELP

    Hello my Fellow CalGUNNERS,
So my m971 ROSSI's cylinder is not locking into place after I fire a round. If i dry fire the weapon pointed at the floor it operates correctly but as soon as I put it in the upright position (as if aiming and firing) it will just slip each time like the cylinder is not catching. Ive cleaned the firearm thouroghly and still seem to have the problem and being this is my only lines problem of defense for me and my family I'd like to correct this problem promply. PLEASE HELP

I had this happen to me before, not with a Rossi but another brand. You need a schematic to help guide you. In my case, there was a spring which exerts forward pressure on the hand when the hammer is cocked and that spring doubles as the trigger return spring. I replaced the spring, hand and transfer bar and ran the Jim March revolver checkout tests. Everything worked after the parts swap. Fortunately for you IIRC Rossi follows the Smith and Wesson pattern and you have a sideplate. Get the sideplate off and you probably could do the repair yourself. But please, familiarize yourself with common revolver disassembly procedures before beginning. Check Radocy for manuals or even Kuhnhausens manuals for more info.
