    Sig 1911R First Range Report

Got to take my new SIG 1911 out yesterday and put some rounds through it.

The Good - What a blast to shoot! Ended up putting a hundred rounds down the pipe. Recoil was less than I expected.

The Bad - Wow! I'm a bad shot with this thing. Guess I'm gonna need some time to get used to it. My first handgun, but I've shot before in the service and when shooting with friends. Had a buddy shoot it as well and he was pretty accurate with it so that rules out the gun. Also had an issue with the slide locking back with rounds still in the magazine.

Out of the hundred rounds i fired, there were 5 times that the slide locked back with one/two rounds in the mag. I used two new CMC 10 round mags and four different types of ammo. Used PMC Starfire, Federal Guard Dog, Independence (Ball), and PMC (Ball). I probably should have tried the factory mags to see if it was mag related.

I used the Starfire and Guard Dog to see how it would feed. I ran 9 rounds of each brand and had the slide lock back once for each. Ran through the box of Independence and had it happen twice. Ran about 30 rounds of the PMC Ball and and had it happen another time.

Any ideas on what would cause the slide locking back with rounds available? Any tips for improving my accuracy?

I have the same gun only mine is black. I took it out for the first time on Wed. I only ran 230 gr ball and the stock mags, I had zero issues. I don't know too much about the CMI mags, but I do know that 1911's are pretty picky about thier mags. Run another 3-400 rounds of ball with the stock mags and see how it goes.

As far as accuracy goes, focus on the basics, grip, stance, sight picture and consistent trigger pull. Don't fall into bad habits early on.

Sounds like you're thumbing the slide stop. If you want to improve your accuracy you would be better off taking a class from a qualified instructor.

That Sig should be able to put the rounds through the same hole.
