    PPT - Notify the DOJ?

After selling a pistol via PPT, do I still have to notify the DOJ that I no longer own it?

All they care about is the new owner, which they get via DROS. If something 'interesting' were to happen to the pistol, any trace activity would first go to the new owner of record.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

I would file an NLIP anyway. I've seen DOJ screw up their records. Also, every few years; send for an AFS printout on yourself to see what they have.

Example -- I put a Sig P220 on consignment sale; I took it back from consignment sale. Net result, it was DROS'ed to me twice. When I did sell it, they removed only one instance of the P220 from my AFS printout.

I have several other examples -- but you get the idea. Also a good idea is always keep every scrap of paperwork involved in any gun transfer/transaction. You never know when you'll need supporting documentation.

Keep a personal firearms log and keep a copy off site in case of loss through fire or theft. Hard to report if your records are gone too.

I don't worry about DOJ's stupid and flawed system. I buy and sell my firearms legally and don't need to prove to anyone that I do so. If something was to happen, they would need to prove that I didn't follow the law. I happen to know for a fact that there are still cars and firearms "in my name" (according to Ca records) which I sold decades ago. So what? I don't have time to try to correct their problemed and flawed systems nor do I care to waste my time trying to do so.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?
