    Storing your hand guns

How do you guys store them? I put them in old socks and put them in the safe, but when I take them out they appear to have stains. I usually wipe oil on them and it's back to normal. I'm just curious if there's a proper way to do it. I hear the silicon cases aren't so great.

I keep them in their individual gun cases. My main concern is to keep them away from anything metal, including other guns. I keep the mags in a separate ammo case.

I also like using "Sack Ups" for pistols ( which are pretty much fancy socks lol )

Maybe you just need to start washing the socks first before you store guns in them? That Athlete's Colt and Berreta toe jam is a mutha to get rid of I hear.

Seriously though, maybe something in the detergent used to wash the socks is bleeding onto the guns. Some detergents are REALLY powerful. I can hardly stand to go in a commercial laundromat for the level of toxic vapors. Might spray the guns down with a light oil and lightly spray inside of socks first before storage?

I put them in individual cases and add packets of silica gel into each case. Only problem is the cases take up a lot of space in the safe.

I use those gun socks for my AR-15 which I really like. I was considering the pistol versions of them. It has good reviews on Amazon.

Bore-Stores. Have not had any problems with over 16 years of use. They are silicone impregnated and keep moisture off the guns.

Do you have a dehumidifier in the safe?

I just put everything in the safe with some big silica gel pouches. Hopefully that's good enough. Will be getting a dehumidifier soon.

I keep mine on the shelf in the safe, with a dehumidifier.

Since I truly store mine for months without use, they get a good cleaning and a liberal coat of oil before I store them.

Rust and pitting have not a problem.

Handguns are hung on the wall of the safe and rifles are in the main area. I keep 2 rechargeable silica dryers in each safe and many of the rifles have gunsocks on them.

Not jack the thread but to add to it....I just bought a Franzen Armloc II to have one of my pistols at my bedside for quick access for HD. I have been told that the foam in the case could draw the oil from the gun and or stain it if the pistol is put inside of it without. Does anybody know about that? Also would you wrap a silicone wipe cloth around it or more like sandwich it in the cloth for better moisture control or better rust prevention while its not stored in the safe with a de-humidifier.

I have some of these and a rechargeable dehumidifier in my safe...

I don't case any of my guns. Too often the cases will attract and contain moisture which leads to corrosion. Cleaned, exterior lightly oiled and put up on vinyl coated racks have worked well for my handguns for decades
