Colt 1911 & Python 357: Need pricing advice

Hello forum,

I need help to price a Colt 1911 and a Python 357. I am completely new to the firearms community and would like to sell what I have received as gifts to buy myself something nice

I know as much as what it says on the guns, and that's about it (did I mention that I am new to the community?).

When you say "buy myself something nice", if you are talking about guns, then you are already there. You have two of the most sought after firearms. I encourage you to learn about them and shoot them, then decide if you want something else.

Just a guess:

1911- $900 to 1100 depending on condition and if you have the box

Python- $1100 to $1800 depending on condition and if you have the original box.

The Python is more of a collector piece these days. The 1911 could be a shooter, or collector, depending on condition. Series 70s are perfect for pimping because they don' t have the firing pin safety that the series 80s had.

The Colt S70 has been modified, do you have the original parts? if not expect a lower price than if you had left it original.

Look around on gunbroker and see what they run, then add a $200-300 California tax.

The guns you have pictured are the dream guns for a lot of folks on this forum. You will be able to sell them no problem. The real question is why would you ever sell them???

Really hard to tell much on their condition with such small pictures and dim lighting; firearms are hard to photograph without good light source. The Python looks like it is in a desperate needing of a cleaning before anyone could give you a good estimate on value.

Also, your location will have some influence on value, what county do you live in?

I hope whoever "gifted" them to you isn't going to be offended that you're planning on selling off two iconic handguns.

Once again, the forum is quick to the aid of a freshman (thanks!).

I got these (among others: Vepr 308, Colt Vaquero, and a Glock) about 8-10 years ago. As a freshman, I am not able to appreciate what I have. The car example would be that I am a guy who inherited a classic Corvette but likes the new BMW.

Let me guess, you want to sell the Colt S70 to buy a Glock? or you want to sell the python to buy an AK? lol

You've got some real nice firearms right there man. If given to me I'd probably sell the Python but that's only because I don't like Nickel or stainless steel and I'm not a wheelgun guy, but that S70 I'd cherish for ever especially since it was free.

You have some awesome guns most people would want(unless they hate Colts).

Dont sell them, as you gain experience you will regret it. As others have said those are very sought after guns. Save up for "something nice". You'll thank me later

The community has spoken and I will respect the collective opinion and not sell. Although I am new to all this, I can appreciate the need to listen to enthusiasts.
