FNP 9 or FNP 40?

I've been steadily more convinced to buy an FNP as my first pistol, but i'm still trying to decide whether to buy a 40 or 9mm. Do the 9mm +p defense rounds close to the amount of punch that 40mm standard defense loads have? I'm thinking i'd get used to the snappiness of the .40 but if the 9mm +p's will do just as well than I might as well go with the 9mm. Thanks for any input.

edit: i'll be reloading my plinking ammo so price isn't a problem

Everyone talks about stopping power and all but if you read some articles, people survive being shot with a 45 nd others live from 9mm it I all shot placement and how comfortable u are with your weapon. I would choose 9mm, because I save $$$ on ammo nd I can go out and shoot more.

I have my G19 bedside packed with Speer GDHP 124gr... I think that if I had to use it, it would do the trick.

The .40 clearly has more KE, but shot placement trumps power. If you're more comfortable shooting the 9, and ammo is cheaper, you will practice more and be more likely to put rounds on target if the time comes. Plenty of people die every year from GSWs from a .22, and people have survived hits from bigger calibers than the .40. Center chest and/or head ends the fight regardless of caliber or bullet weight.

9mm all the way...like socalmedix said with a set of Speer GDHP 124gr +p ammo a 9mm could be very lethal and be very good for home protection...that being said the 9mm is cheaper to shoot and a good practice ammo and it doesn't have as much muzzle flip like the .40 s&w...with less muzzle flip your shot placement will be quicker...

I think the harder thing with deciding on the FNP9 is its getting a little harder to find since its been discontinued.. I'm just sad I didnt pulled the trigger on a FNP9 in two tone when I had the chance... =(

Thanks for the input guys. I'd definitely go with +p for my defense rounds and i'll be checking out GDHP 124gn. I honestly can't wait

If i remember correctly a .40 only has 10% more energy than a 9mm.

Get the 9mm, shoot more. When you want something more get a .45.

That's interesting I thought it had a lot more thanks for the info. That's what I was thinking of doing- getting a .45 when I have more money down the line.
