    Khar Arms CW9?

    Hello all,

I am looking to get a handgun for my wife. She has somewhat small hands and isn't exactly comfy with 'normal' sized handguns.

At a recent show we came across the Khar CW9 and found it fit nicely in her hand and was thin enough for her to get a comfortable grip on it. While this is a nice find, I don't much like that the bulk of the weapon is plastic, while the slide is metal.

Does anyone have much experience with this weapon and how it stands up to repeated use? I'd rather not have her putting rounds through it at a range and have it fail due to the metal chewing up the plastic bits.

Also, does anyone have suggestions about similarly sized handguns that might be a bit more rugged? Not looking for flash or anything pink - accuracy and reliability are what matters.

    Hello,

I have put over a thousand rounds through the P9, which is basically the same gun. I didnt have any malfunctions with target or defense loads. They say there is a break in period of 200 rounds before you should rely on it.

Havent had any problems with plastic bits.

Ruger LC9 comes to mind but i'd rather have the Kahr due to personal preference, manual of arms thing.

the metal chewing up the plastic bits.
You have obviously researched this more than you are letting on.

Getting chewed up isn't a problem. Nosediving, failure to go to battery, and shooting yourself with that butter smooth trigger are.

They are the best gun there is when they work, except they don't hold much.

The all metal versions are 10x better. Check out the K9. Its as solid as a pistol can get.

          ^^^^^^This^^^^^

Check out the Kahr MK9 Elite, solid steel. I own one and have found it a fun & accurate shooter.

Only issue I can imagine is the weight of it, but then again I'm pretty sure your wife is NOT going to be putting hundreds of rounds down range..

There are ex NYPD K9's showing up online now, good deals at about $400.

NYPD did remove them from the approved backup/off duty list, however.

NYPD "specifications" are stupid. Soon only sling shots will be allowed.

My girl has a CW9, one of the few guns that would actually fit her hand well. Id say we have around 500-600 rounds down the pipe, not a single issue with any of the ammo we have used. Primarily 115gr Federal FMJ and Remmington UMC 115gr JHP. I don't recall feeding it anything else, but so far its been a great shooter with zero issues or abnormal wear patterns.

If you are used to triggers that are found on 1911s or striker pistols like glock or XD, it takes a little getting used to, but once you figure it out, its a awesome self defense gun. Long but smooth pull till it fires.

We have not had any issues with plastic bits.

^ Ill second that. You could do worse for the money. CW9 is my EDC and I've never had a problem with it. Near 1K rounds fired. Handles Gold Dot JHP with aplomb. I keep the Hogue Jr grip on it. Much more comfortable.

I paid $399 for my cw9, it has never jammed. You cannot slingshot the slide from lock like most pistols, you have to drop the slide via slide release only. I have over 1000 rounds of umc/wwb, full power reloads and SD ammo. Mine is accurate reliable and cheap. I own a 7rd and 8rd extended and have no issues. The slide points on the frame hold up fine. I was a little weird on the idea that the rear slide contacts are plastic but there is no significant wear. The trigger is a light long double action type of pull with a long reset, kind of reminds me of a ruger lcr.

I bet the ruger lc9 might fit your bill too. My wife will only shoot my fullsize 1911 because its thin, points naturally and handles recoil very nicely. My personal favorite pistol is a kimber 1911 compact. Sig p239 in 9mm is a tad bigger and is a thin single stack. Having small hands myself I gravitate towards single stack and have been on the quest for the perfect thin handgun.

I love my CW9. Cant say the same for a PM9 I owned. Great gun. No issues with nosediving, jamming, etc. Gun does prefer to be ridden home using the slide stop but really havent had any issues slingshotting either.

Excellent little gun, I am a big Kahr fan, it is durable, other similar gun would be the Ruger LC9 , Both are good, I don't care for the Ruger trigger very much, but it wouldn't stop me from buying one if it felt better than the Kahr, but to me it doesn't.

Ruger has a safety it that matters.

Love mine, 1 failure to go into battery that was the second round ever out of it. Over 300 rounds now no problems. It is my EDC gun.
