Moon clips and cylinder machining?

Out of curiousity I have used a gun with moon clips and I like it, but do all revolvers need machining to be able to use them? Where do you get that done and how much does it cost?

The guns that are out of the box as a 40/10 mm or 45 acp are already set up for moon clips. The performance center 627's are usually already set up, the rest generally are not.
