can I just say this has been asked many times before.
and the reason is so someone can't file a false stolen gun report

Thieves are the lowest form of life out there, except for liberal politicians, of course, but that's redundant.

In addition to the above, it's just good personal OPSEC IMO. Don't reveal what you don't have to.
I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy!

So the <insert 3 letter acronym> can't trace your firearm when they scrape this site with their robot script looking for "extreme right wing types".

                  This ^^^

I've never really been concerned about it. Don't know if any S/N's have been legible in anything I've posted, but I wouldn't blame anyone from wanting to conceal an S/N

I have receipts for all the handguns I've purchased. No biggie for me.

It literally takes less than 15 seconds to do and is good for privacy imo

                            Agreed

If it makes you feel better then do it. Personally I could care less and to date no officer has knocked on my door. If they did, the person who filed the report would be in hot water not me.

Ok im slow. Guns have traceable owners, what would be the point of someone seeing a SN and claiming the gun is theirs? They cant prove they ever owned it.
