Ok next handgun HK USP. Problem though, I can't decide on what caliber 45 or 9? I'm leaning torward 9 because I plan on picking up a 1911 next. If you guys have any info, pros and cons on helping me decide on which caliber it would be greatly appreciated.

Go with the 9mm. Its cheaper.

Also consider the HK P2000 V3 9mmx19.

Intended use of gun?

I believe the USP 9mm takes a 15 round magazine in most of the US, and the USP 45 takes a 12 rounder. Of course in CA you can only buy a 10 rounder in either caliber. You might consider the USP 45 because you're only giving up 2 rounds compared to the 5 rounds you give up with the 9mm. So the California USP 45 wastes less space in the grip.

I have the USP 45 and it is a fine gun. It is accurate, durable and never fails to fire.

you might consider the 8+1 single stack 45 USP compact. I also think my 45 USP Elite is one accurate p2000 styled longslide. The regular big-a$Z USP is kind of blocky.

The good thing about the USP in V1 is that the controls are fairly 1911-ish. I find myself wishing for the HK style mag release on my other guns...genius, but it hasn't caught on with other makes.

Well... I shoot my USP 9mm more than my USP .45. But if we're comparing HK 9mm pistols, I prefer my P2000 more than my USP 9mm.

The fun caliber: .40S&W.

It's just a shortened 10mm.

Do you have any other gun in 9mm? 9mm is nice to shoot and easy to shoot and not as expensive. If you ever move to a less restrictive state you can get the jet funnel and super hi-cap or just the regular hi-cap mags for not much more. The hi-cap for the .45 is quite expensive compared to the 10 round mags.

Response to slide question

Did you purchase your USP with the slide, or did you purchase afterwards? If so how much did you pay for it and where?

My USP 45 came from the factory with a stainless slide. This was an option offered by H&K on these guns for a number of years. I would estimate that about 20% of the used USPs you see for sale have the stainless slide, as opposed to the black slide. I've owned my USP 45 for about 7 years, buying it used from the original owner for $550 as I recall.

I have a friend who had the black slide on his USP 45 finished with hard chrome because he liked the two tone look. I think it cost him a little over $100 to have it done.

I have the USP in .45. Get the .45 and don't look back. If you are worried about the price of ammo, start reloading.

I would go with the .45 since you're planning on getting a 1911 anyway. I like to stick with 1 handgun caliber. Easier when you reload.
