I'm thinking of getting a sig sauer p220 .45 for my first handgun. Is this a good choice?

Yes to all of the above. I have big hands so I can handle any pistol. I just wanted to know if there was something more fun I'm not thinking of. I'm only going to be taking it to the range on occassion and having in the home for defense.

not necessarily. i was looking at a .357 sig but it just seemed too expensive, especially ammo.
