Anyone have any experience with the GSG 1911? I am looking for a .22 handgun to replace my P22 and the reviews on the mosquito have been poor. The GSG will only be used for a fun gun/ trainer for new shooters.

GSG 1911

I checked out the GSG pretty carefully at a local dealer. Overall, nice build quality, feels good in your hand. Couple of things I did not like about how the barrel fits into the bushing and the resulting play between the barrel and the bushing. It seemed to me that could adversely affect accuracy. The other thing is that reports are from owners that the finish is thin/fragile and they show holster and slide wear almost immediately. Reviews, if you research them, there are a few, are kind of mixed on build quality.
If you NEED an inexpensive 1911-type trainer, it's a decent gun but it didn't quite end up hitting the mark for me so I bought the Ruger SR22 instead. I am very happy with the Ruger (but good luck on finding one - they are really rare right now, I searched for a month and hit up everywhere on-line and visited about 25 guns shops before I found one).

Time to read sir.. also, if you search using the drop down "Search" option to the top-right, it might speed things up for you if you want to really get into all the past GSG threads.
For now, you might want to start here. Great review w/ tons of content.

I have one. It was fun to shoot until the guide rod breaks at around 4000 rounds (Though ATI send me a replacement). The frame is nice but the slide is not. It is now showing some wear and tear on its slide notch.
If I were to get another 22LR, I will go for a browning buckmark or a ruger mark III.NRA member

I've only got about 2000 rounds down the pipe but this has turned into my favorite gun for plinking. I find it to be very accurate. After my first 200 rounds it has chewed up anything I feed it. I love this little guy so far..._...|..\__________________,_

I have a GSG1911 and it is very reliable considering it's a .22lr. I'm not a huge fan of the quality of the gun itself though and not as accurate as I hoped. If you get one you'd probably want to replace the plastic guide rod at some point. I admit it is fun to shoot though.Comment

Definitely upgrade the guide rod and barrel bushing (accuracy).
Check out the RIA XT22. It's made of steal parts and there's a combo deal with a 45 slide. 2 guns in one. Releasing soon, but you will need to SSE it to get it here.Comment

I had been looking for a dedicated .22 in a "1911 format" and just purchased the Colt/Umarex .22 lr Rail Gun model.
Have not had a chance to shoot it yet but the build quality looks top notch and the reviews I looked at have been good for functionality and accuracy.

Another option is to buy one of the several conversion kits available to convert your .45 to a .22. I bought the Advantage Arms one due to its great reviews and decent price (compared to some of them). I still haven't tried it out yet, but the build quality seems great and people seem to really like them.

If you can live with Zinc alloy slide, it's a very nice 22 over all. Most owner (including me) get it for its a 1911 design. And it will take 80% of 1911 parts. Mine is reliable and accurate so far. But I would put it on the same level as ruger mark series or browning buckmark series.Taiwan born, Chinese descent, red white and freaking blue America citizen.

I wouldn’t put it on the same level.
It’s no where near as accurate or as durable as the Mark II I shoot.
Here is my long term on my the GSG (in the rimfire section):
As others have suggested utilize a “GSG" search specified in the “rimfire” section and you’ll find all that you need.
Long story short:
If you want a target accurate, durable, and inexpensive .22, you need a ruger or something close to it.
If you want a neat plinker that you can (and probably will) modify like a 1911 then get the GSG.Hauoli Makahiki Hou
