I find myself always bringing my 1911 to the range and also my Marvel Conversion. Its a pain to constantly be switching the uppers when I want to shoot one or the other though. Other than spending a fortune on an STI or Caspian frame, are there any other options for buying just a completed 1911 frame and putting the Marvell .22 conversion on top? I don't want to spend a fortune and don't want another .45 slide sitting in my safe, any options?

1911 Frame question

Wait for a PPT frame opportunity, do a 60-80% frame, or go buy a GSG 1911(cheapest easiest option)Jonah -
Buy another 1911 in .45acp
Two is one and one is none, or so I've been told.
The Marvel Unit 1 is a great conversion unit; I've had mine on my Super Match II, but I plan on putting it on top of my Colt Service Model Ace frame as the accuracy and reliability is better than the standard Colt conversion."You keep using that word. I was in the same boat. I had a Kimber conversion with a Springfield Armory that I kept swapping out the tops. I got tired of spending $'s on Mini Mags and thought about getting a Rock Island for a dedicated lower but like you I didn't want another slide in the safe. But that meant trigger job and sights also the Kimber was picky, only CCI Mini Mags, and had malfunctions all the time. I bought one of the first GSG1911-22's and have several thousand rnds through it. It was well worth not having to switch out the tops all the time plus it shoots the cheapest stuff I can get. Now I just have 1911's that do what they are supposed to do and not multi task. Don't ask about the CMMG conversion for the AR. That's why I have a Tactical Solutions top for my AR same problem as above.Comment

As soon as I can get a definitive answer from a O7 FFL regarding the possibility of getting frames through SSE (single shot exception) somehow, I will post on Calguns my findings. You can see what I'm thinking about on the last page of the SSE sticky thread on top of this handgun forum.NRA Member, CAPRC MemberComment
