    B Hi-Power problems, help...

My Browning HI Power is a .40cal.
The trigger guard smacks my trigger finger with every shot. This hurts slightly and is rather annoying...The grips are standard plastic out of box and I hate them. I'm thinking of getting Pachmeyr's wraparounds with finger grooves. Will a trigger boot help? Any idea's?
    I bought it new/used.
I own a 1911 and am a big fan of single action semi's. This Browning is a project for me. Give me some input...!!!

    Thanks

I'm a 1911 guy too -- my 9mm Browning Hi-Power MkIII does the same thing to me (trigger guard occasionally slaps my finger). Changing grips won't help; you need to just focus on your trigger pull and get used to the occasional fwap.

I find that positioning my trigger finger just *slightly* closer to the pivot point (i.e., up towards the slide) helps a little -- as does a solid "4 corners" 2-handed isosceles grip on the gun.

I have a 70s BHP. I don't think a change of grips is going to help. Can't help with the trigger guard hitting your finger, but how about factory original wood grips for a nicer look than black plastic?

The Pachmayr grips allow a more solid hand hold, which might help you out. The covered front strap provides more traction that might keep the gun from slipping upwards.

A firmer grip and/or firmer wrist is another solution- I never had a problem with this on my BHP, but if you watch me shoot a 4" bbl. .500 S&W it looks like someone else shooting a .38.. A gift from working in construction!

i think that the wrap arounds will help get a more solid grip, they did for me.

Following will help you, credit to Stephen Camp...

*For the fellow wanting to know how to remove the magazine safety: On the older guns, you simply unload the gun, remove the slide assembly and then locate the small pin visible on the side of the trigger toward the frame. It's visible in the trigger guard. Remove it with a small punch. Now, press and release the trigger a few times. Sometimes the "safety" and its spring will pop out in the magazine well from a hole in the rear top of the trigger that's visible from inside the frame. If not, take hold of the lever that goes up when the trigger's pulled to press the sear trip lever in the slide. Carefully work it out and back, past the frame. The safety and spring should then pop out. In the newer guns, the frame's been altered enough that you cannot get this lever past the frame. In that case, you have to drive out the trigger pin. Take a BRASS punch and drive out this pin that goes through the frame. Put the punch on the pointed end of this pin. Often, you will NOT have to drive the pin all the way out, just enough to move the trigger assembly around enough to get the lever back past the frame to release the safety and spring. Best.

Expecting a response about your court trial for using a BHP w/ a safety feature removed... Don't worry, the respondent won't be able to cite a case
