Surprised this is on the DOJ list

picked it up last nite. always wanted a .44 special snubby. as small as my .38 Special and about the same weight. just need a good holster for it. been loading some cast 214 gr lee swc with IMR Trail Boss. Hope to get it to the range this week.

these loads are actually some 265 gr ftx made for a 444 Marlin but loaded in .44 Special case, next to factory 225 gr .44 mag. will shoot these out of a 94 Win. I was surprised to find out that a factory 180gr .44 mag bullet will fit in the cylinder of the Charter Arms Bulldog Pug, for some reason I just assumed this would not be a possibility. Hopefully no one out there will either try to shoot a mag out of one or accidentally shoot one out of one. I think I will email the company.

Thanks, i am hoping my reloads won't be too stout. Should be under 800 fps. 5 shots.
Oh by the way the factory grips are nice, just thinner than the Pachmayr Presentation Compac grips which I prefer. Something smaller and more concealable would be nicer, Hogue does not make grips for this model.

love mine, just wish it was stainless. buffalo bore makes a neat defense round that will work in the charter arms, it's a hard cast wadcutter.

                  Got to shoot it today

I actually prefer a nice blue and wood, but alas not on the CA list. Neither is the cool bk/o.d. tiger stripe model. http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2...ulldog-review/ too cool!

chrono stopped reading soon after, av 648 fps w/ 214 LSWC Lee mold, 4.3 gr IMR Trail Boss, good groups, need to paint front sight orange or something, kinda snappy but not bad at all. From the very first five shots: 3 touching low, adjusted hold last 2 touching; about a 4" group though at 27'. Next time will bench it and figure out that chrony.

Not happy that I had some leading already. I think I will forego the use of the .429" sizer die (waste of $20, but hey came w/ a bottle of Lee Liquid Alox). Will just load the next ones out of the mold. Have not slugged the bore yet. Just want some light plinking accurate loads.

Will load some jacketed SD loads when someone gets some Speer Gold Dot HPs in.

I encourage you to write them. It doesn't seem right that you can chamber a .44Mag in a .44Spcl cylinder.

I've always dreamt of getting one since 1973. The David Berkowitz incident made this revolver famous(infamous). I still think of getting the Bulldog. Nothing says more than "BIG HOLES" from a little gun. Congratulations on getting one.

                        got it back from Charter

it took about 10 days total to get it back, they put in a new cylinder, the lady I spoke w/ said the cylinders are made locally down the street and then assembled by Charter, she figured one slipped by that was reamed too far. Now I cannot fit .44 mag cartridges in the cylinder which is what I wanted. I searched online regarding this and the only hits I got were for some S&W revolvers out there.
Everyone interested in some of the Charter models should let them know to put more on the CA doj list, they have a .22 mag/.22lr pathfinder that looks pretty good, also the only .44 Special is the stainless version but they have other finishes like a tiger stripe OD green and flat black. If it is not on the list specifically by finish, is it still possible to get another finish in CA? I noticed the .327 Federal Magnum in no longer available, or at least not in their catalog.
I think I will try other powders and get it to clock faster and maybe try other bullets/weights, hopefully won't get any leading. Have the TL 240 gr Lee SWC on order.

                          Someone explain

shot it w/ same loads that produced leading in the bbl and forcing cone. new cylinder. NO LEADing. even happier with this revolver now. shoots low though as far as i can tell. still need to get it on a good pistol rest. checked return invoice, only stated replaced cylinder, nothing about a new bbl. was all ready to come home and clean it w/ an old brush wrapped w/ some copper Chore Boy
