WENT TO THE RANGE AND DECIDED ON THE SR9


Going to the range tomorrow to scout out my next money pit. I've shot a handful of guns, but never anywhere near each other or often enough to really compare. I'm looking for a good reliable range gun.
Price range: Attempting to keep it around 500$
Caliber: 9mm, using it for the range.

Guns on my testing list:

G17: My only glock experience is shooting 9 bullets out of a g19. But lets just say I've never felt more BA shooting 9 bullets before in my life. Going to see if it was luck (which I know it was) or if me and glock were just made to be. I also like knowing that it has a long history of reliability.

CZ 75 SP-01: I know this completely busts my price range. But I remember shooting one of these back in the day and absolutely loving it. If it's as great as I remember it, I might just have to penny up.

SR9: Never shot the SR9, but I have shot it's compact variant. So far, the SR9c is my favorite compact, so I thought I would check out it's older brother.

PX4 Storm: The guy at my local gun shop was talking this thing up, I had never seen it before. Felt nice and solid. He was able to break the gun down and put it back together ridiculously fast and without even skipping a beat talking to me. Looking at reviews and threads it seems the majority of people agree with him. The complaint list I've found researching so far is; the safeties make it hard to grip the slide, they also can hurt your hands if you loose grip while racking the slide, almost no aftermarket parts, and only a three year warranty.

Any other must haves on this list? Nothing else is really coming to mind. And I've shot an XD and M&P, neither felt right to me.

This is going to be a fun/target gun. I want to use it for plinking out in the desert and maybe messing around in local range matches. Seems like the best choice to me.

CZ 75B......6000 rounds and counting no malfunctions !
I just love it shoots straight and never fails..

9mm great choice....Many uses and doe's not break the bank shooting at range..
For home defence there are some nice hp that will do the job...

Just an opinion the CZ 75B is the best 9mm on the market.

Have you ever shot a SP-01? If so, what do you prefer with the 75B over the SP-01. I've heard SP-01 owners say they like it better then the 75b. But I don't think I've ever heard the other side of the story.


And I'm not 100% on anything. If you have a case, please bring it forth.

Glock 17 or 19 for 9mm...But if you wanna go with a .40 get a Glock 23...If buying in high quanity rounds the .40 smith and wesson isn't that much more expensive compared to the 9mm...Anyways get a Glock you won't regret it...

And I've never been a fan of the .40 cal. I've always felt that it had too much muzzle flip for me. In my opinion I believe this is what attracts most people to it, makes it feel powerful. But this is at the hindrance of your follow up shots. But it definitely is cheap.
Of course this is a matter of opinion. YMMV, I've seen people shoot better then I ever wish with them.

And I will say one of the big things shooting for the glock, is it's history does provide a pretty nice safety net feeling. Even if I don't like it, everybody has to have a glock. Right? Maybe?

All you listed are good choices. Don't overlook the XD9 and M&P.. get the one you shoot the best.

You know honestly i use to hate Glocks...I was more of a 1911, Sig and HK fan if anything..i use to hate the way Glocks look...But after reading on Glocks and watching videos on Glocks it made me want to own one...After a while the way the Glock looked really grew on me..I actually love the way they look now...And yes i do think everyone should own atleast one Glock...With the exception of a 1911...That was one of the main reason i didn't buy the Sig, HK, M&P, xd and FNP...I felt like if i got a Sig i would still end up with a Glock in the future...My 1st 2 guns that i must have is a Glock and a 1911..But that's just me...Whatever you pick just make sure it feels good in your hands..Just because people say it's a good gun doesn't mean it's the gun for you...I originally wanted the G19 but the G17 felt better in my hand so i went the G17...

Yea, I know that eventually getting a glock is inevitable. To tell you the truth I talked myself into getting a g17 today, but the shop was out. Which then led me to do some rational thinking, and now hitting the range tomorrow. Try and protect myself at least a little bit from buyers remorse. If it comes down to a tie between the glock and one of the other guns, I'm going the glock route no questions.

Trying to go into this without favoritism, but I am failing miserably.

I like the 75B it's a little less bulky, a little lighter and a little shorter in heighth with flush mag...Relax SP-01 owners I did hold one at ffl and it felt great I just was not interested in rail and price tag..

You can not go wrong with either, they are both the same gun on the inside it's just personal preference to pick one..

The Glock 30/30sf in .45 acp shoots softer than 9's or 40's and reputed (by Ayoob and others) to be the most accurate of all the Glocks. If you're anywhere near Ramona/Santa Ysabel/Julian, come on out and try mine if you like...

Yea, just did some quick google searching. First link I click on is a dead even poll. Apparently people are split right down the middle on the issue. Seems common consensus is, 75B has a nicer balance and SP-01 has nicer recoil. Might actually have to switch the SP-01 over to 75B. I'll see if the range I go to even has either, and then hopefully see which one feels better balanced. I don't have any use for the rails.
