    So I bought a GP100 4"

Checked it out in the store, they had a decent price compared to others in the area, so I got it and pick up in 10 days. Other than a bunch of ammo, anything else that is useful that I should get to go with it? Maybe one of those speed loader things? Also, whats a good sort of belt or shoulder holster for such a revolver, mainly for outdoors/ backpacking use?
This may sound strange and unbelievable to you, but it is real and true.

Speed loaders and some better grips. Revolvers are easy.

Check out Simply Rugged holsters and the speed loaders for the 686-586 fit. Have fun, I have the same gun and love it!

Great decision on the GP100. Check out the Shop Ruger website.

I have this holster. It fits the gun perfectly, but is not the best leather I have seen. It also is a bit noisy, but i'm hoping after breaking it in it will get quieter. I would pick up some speed loaders. The Fiber Optic Sights are awesome as well. They literally take second to change out.

I bought both of these but ended up using the red ramp instead of the fiber optic.

The factory grips on the GP100 worked just fine for me!

The factory hogue grip works fine for me and fits my hand just right. All I did to mine was add a hi-viz front sight and I have a red sight tube in it.

the stock grips are great in taming the recoil on my buffalo bore ammo.
for backpacking, i use a holster that has a flap on it, to make sure it does'nt fall off and to protect it from the elements.

Good choice I love my GP. I have the Hi-viz front sight and because of my smaller hands I went with the early GP grips and they work great for me. You also might want to look into a spring kit for a reduced trigger pull and while it's apart do some polishing to smooth out the trigger. Have fun and be safe.

I made the same excellent choice last month. I then picked up two HKS 586 speedloaders, ammo, and a holster.

I will likely go with the older wood-inlaid grips and a trigger job to get the weight down a bit.

Well, I bought this almost police-looking safariland holster, since it was new, $30 on ebay, and looks pretty sweet. Then a couple speed loaders (probably get a little pouch for them) and a set of wood Hogue grips, so I'll have a set of both wood and rubber. I was looking at the hi viz, but couldn't I just paint the tip of the front sight blade with a tiny dab of neon or something?

Be careful with ammo, I heard that a few million rounds of full power .357 Magnum might start to wear it out.
