    RIA Compact 1911 Issues

Hey I just took out my RIA Compact for its first 100rds yesterday. I immediatly ran into issues... Every 2nd-3rd round, I was unable to pull the trigger, as though the Grip safety was not engaged. If I simply pressed the magazine up if would allow me to proceed.

My assumption is its the magazines. I bought 2 addtl ACT-Mags plus the 1 ACT-Mag it came with. Plus the two I bought don't lock the slide back on last round or eject properly upon pushing the mag release.

Time for some new mags huh? Sucks cause it is so accurate and my CCW quals are this weekend... where can I find some mags this soon?!?! Lol or is there a fix? In other 1911 forums, not many people have issues with thier RIAs and the stock Mag (ACT-Mags). Why me!

Sounds like it to me. I am glad you like it since I have considered getting one at some point. I have the FS Tactical and it ran ok with the ACT's, but now I run Wilson Combats. Does the store you purchased it from sell WC or other better quality mag? They should. They will cost more than online, but at least you have them for this weekend.

    Good luck.

Yup, looks like your new magazines are the culprit. I would assume the compact uses a different size magazine compared to a GI or standard 1911 model.

        Key there is "not many."

The ACT that came with my FS Tactical was junk. I gave up on it after it spewed it's guts & 7 rounds of ammo out on the line.

I have MecGar, Checkmate & Wilson Combat 7 rounders & all work fine. IMO the Wilson Combat, while they work OK after replacing the guts, is overpriced & overrated.

Yeah my RIA GI .45 would keep messing up (not like that though) with the crappy mags it came with, but once I started using WC and Novak mags, I have not had a single failure

I dono, it may not be the mag. Does ur trigger have any vertical movement? The slightly oversized mag maybe pushing up ur trigger so the grip safety will not disengage

My RIA commander didn't like the OEM mag. Switched to Wilson Combat... Like butter.

I have 3 ACT mags for my RIA 1911CS, and they seem to work fine. They certainly don't cause what you are seeing. Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I think the standard mags will work in the compact, they will just hang lower. I can't imagine with three separate ACT mags, they would all be causing the same issue.

I will try it again. Could be my grip. But I did by a mecgar and a Wilson Combat magazine. And the Wilson Combat did work like butter. I got 1 FTExtract with the mecgar. Might be time to send my RIA back to the company...

Is your slide returning to battery?

I can't think of anything that pushing the mag in would "release" that would allow the trigger to be pulled. The gun should be able to fire with the magazine removed. Maybe try that. When you can't pull the trigger, engage the safety, eject the mag, then disengage the safety and fire.

My RIA has a feeding issue and sometimes the slide won't go all the way into battery. It shouldn't fire out of battery, so if bumping the mag up is allowing the slide to close completely, then that would result in the gun being able to be fired. In my case, I believe the recoil spring is too light or worn out.

I had ONE failure to return to battery in 200rds. It MAY not be the mags. It may just have been the way I was holding the RIA while I was firing it. I'm going to try a few more boxes tomorrow morning and let you guys know. I really hope I didn't get a lemon.

Is your RIA the Commander size or Officer's size?

As the barrel gets shorter they tend to be more finicky about extractor tuning, magazines, etc. I'm told the Officer's size needs to be pretty spot on.
