    Retards making the roster.

Poking around in the roster I find so many problems it isn't even funny

I see listings for guns chambered for 40 ACP, .22 MRF, .25 (maybe it is 25-06 ), .32, .40, etc...

Then there are the minor differences but they make a huge difference in a database. Things like:
    .40 S&W vs .40 S & W
    .38 SPL vs .38 Special
.44 Mag vs .44 Magnum vs .44 S&W (what the hell is that) vs 44 Magnum
.45 ACP vs .45 Auto vs 45 ACP
    10mm vs 10 mm
    9mm vs 9 mm

So if a gun is listed as .40 (and not .40 S&W) does that mean I can have them send me one in 10mm if they make it (which uses .40 cal bullets)?

What about the S&W 1911PD 5". Can I get the one with the light rail on it

Some barrel lengths are listed in mm, some in decimal inches, and some in fractional inches.

It is nice to see all that money going to someone with at least a 3rd grade education

if the .40 is a ruger, that's how they label them.

as to the rest of the mistakes, well look on this board and we will seem no better.

The .40 is a Barsto and the .40 ACP is an XD.

None of us are getting payed to post here and this board is not a legal document.

Were all the people that bought the Bi-Tone XD in .40 S&W (which is stamped 40 SW on the barrel) guilty of buying an un-safe handgun because it is in a different caliber than is on the list?

sure why not. hypertechnicality cuts both ways.

          That would be "paid".

          You can say that again.

Your point is well taken. The entries should be consistent both as to content and designation. Abbreviations or acronyms should be consistent or footnoted. Usually this problem arises not just because different people are updating the list but because the manager hasn't even bothered to discuss or insist upon proper data hygiene. This is a management failure indicative of a dysfunctional office that pays no attention to detail, doesn't have any interest to do so, or is so blinded by hubris they can't even see the problem. I'm sure rather than properly clean up the list, there'll be some convenient excuse to put off even that minimal labor. I'm cringing now waiting for the inevitable "close enough for government work" excuse of the pathologically inept. This would never be acceptable in either England or Germany - places where Civil Servants know the meaning of doing their jobs correctly (however you may disagree with the intent of their laws).

Does anyone remember the South Park episode with the Record Producer? What did he keep saying? "I'm above the... " When a unit is allowed to make things up as they go along, poorly drafted lists are not to be unexpected. They presage other things that will go awry.

I can just imagine some "Dilbert" in the office has pointed out problems on the list many times. When does the boss ever listen - especially when it's thought the CEO loves the list?

Yes I have known for a long time that I can't spell

I do however know my limitations and normally use spell checker and proof read things... I normally even spell check things I post, however my recent update to FirefoxV1.5 meant loosing my loosing the Spellbound extension...

I also have some experience with databases (oddly enough for local government). Something this small should be no problem. It would take less than an hour to get it fixed up.

It seems that the Make, Gun Type, & Exp Date are consistent. Most likely the people working on the list are "data entry" type people who merely enter in exactly what is given to them let alone know the difference between .40S&W and .40ACP...

...But it is the DOJ's responsibility to make sure that what gets published is not only technically correct but also consistent.

FWIW, the latest Spellbound works with FF1.5+. Here's the link to the install page:

Note that it automatically checks which version of FF you're using and suggest which version to dl/install.

I don't blame the data entry people, who know nothing about guns and calibers. I'd blame the mouthbreathers who designed the database.

Tables like calibers should be pre-populated with all the known cartridge designations so that the data entry folks can pick them from a list.

Agreed. Part of my job is setting up data entry fields with error checking to keep things consistent. As someone who has had to data mine several very large government databases, it's maddening when there's so many different ways to enter the same thing - and then they do! Yikes!

                  <warning - thread hijack - warning>

On another note, I just purchased two of your AR15 stock conversion conversion kits for a couple of Winchester 1300 Defenders. Has anyone used the regular extension tube buffers and springs to reduce recoil? What about putting a mercury tube in there used in other shotguns? Thanks!
