I know there maybe a thread for this already but i am on my phone at work and cannot seem to find one. When you buy a gun, they ask for 2 forms of id. Usually your drivers license and registration. Is there anything else that is accepted? Beside registration? They wouldnt take my guard card, which not only has state seal on it, along my info (address, ect.) Butis registered with the DOJ and FBI. Could someone explain why this isnt a vaild form of id? It contains same info as my registration. Are there other options?

Are you talking about your proof of residence? If that's the case your registration may not show a recent enough date. You could try a recent phone, power, or water bill to show residence"I don't facebook, I Calguns"~Me -
The DOJ tells dealers
Quote:
14. What identification is required for a person to purchase a firearm?
Clear evidence of identity and age is defined as a valid California driver's license or a valid California Identification Card issued by the DMV. Military identification is also acceptable if accompanied by permanent duty station orders indicating a posting in California, but the dealer must retain copies of both documents.
Temporary driver licenses and temporary identification cards (issued without photo) are not accepted forms of proof of identity and age.
33. What documentation is acceptable to demonstrate proof of residency for handgun purchasers?

Thanks SacTown. But as far ad I know. My guard card and gun card are issued by state and federal government. Both have my address matching my dross and my drivers license. I used my vehicle registration. But I didn't understand why guard and gun card didn't work having same info, and state and government issued

I just purchased a new handgun at the Sacramento gun show this past weekend and i filled out all my paperwork and showed my CDL for ID right then and there...but nothing was mentioned to me about needing a 2nd form of ID...should I bring something with me when I go to pickup?Comment

I was a bit surprised yesterday when I went to start DROS on a handgun - I brought my SoCal Edison (Electricity) bill from this month like I normally do and was told by the gun shop that they couldn't accept that. I asked if my gas bill would work and the answer to that was also "no" based on the fact that the gas company isn't a state entity. They recommended I go to the post office and get a proof of residence or bring my W2/Tax return since my vehicle registration doesn't have my home address on it.
Luckily, I was able to start the 10-day wait. Called back to the shop and asked if my CA Identification Card would work and the answer to that one was "yes." Not sure when it became this strictLast edited by immaculate; 03-08-2012, 2:50 AM.Comment

Just spoke to the gunshop and I was told the following:
- Bring my CDL, the address on it should match what is on my paperwork I filled out
- Second form of ID that is "most" accepted is a CA vehicle registration renewal
- Hangun safety cert card
- and money!Comment

Does your guard card have an expiration date on it? They are looking for expiration dates.

On top of my driver license, I've always used my PG&E bill or car registration as my second form of ID. A renter's lease is also acceptable.Originally posted by G. a DMV driving record works, IIRC...if you don't have a bill in your name at your address that is.x2

Greybeard. Yes 9/30/2013. Needs to be renewed every 2 years. Also has all the normal state stuff on the back "change of address needs to be reported immediately" "renew 60 to 30 days prior to renewal date" Not to mention I.was told without reporting a new address, if I moved my card would.no longer be valid, until issued with correct addressComment

I get grief because virtually nothing has my street address since I don't/can't get mail there. Everything has my PO Box. "Bring your registration that will have your street address" - no it does not! Utility bills? Everything is done via email and online pay - no more paper bills. ARRG. Some gun stores are better than others. Big-5 refuses to sell me a gun because my drivers license does not have my physical address - DMV will not put my physical address on the visible portion of the license. (It is in their records, but the DMV will only put your mailing address on your DL.)1 Corinthians 2:2
