    H&K for CCW

Does anyone have an HK that they carry daily? I'm considering an upgrade, but have question concerning the triggers. From what I understand from all the variants I want a LEM for daily carry. I don't want the external safety. I will probably go wiht 9mm, or possibly a 40. I have looked at the P2000, but I really like the P30, that would have to be SSE'd to get. Feedback please.

From what I've read, P2000 for carry. The P30, has rough textures, which may rub like sandpaper. I have both, the P2000 is smaller.

If you do go P30, you will want the V3, it has no external safety and a decocker ... The rough sides might irritate but I don't carry mine everyday so who knows.

P30 can also be purchased with saftey, the P30S, which is the model I have, also V3 DA/SA. I'm sure u can also find LEM, without safety too.

            Sarcasm?

Good advice. Don't protect yourself with the best you can. That's just foolish

            I like my P7M8

Forgot to add, P2000, doesn't come with a safety option. Both can be purchased with de-cocker.

Thanks for the feedback. I went and toyed with one in a LGS at lunch. They had a P2000 V2 and V3. The V3 trigger felt better, but was still just ok IMHO. I'm going to keep looking and see what I can find.

Triggers are triggers.... It's not a 1911, its not a gun for comp. It's a gun. A very good gun. Hk OS built the way they are for a reason. Everyone speaks highly of the lem and factory match trigger. If you can't except that, hk is not what your looking for.

I've shot many different guns, the feel of the trigger does nothing, they all shoot the same

LEM P2000 is an excellent choice for a compact auto. I love mine...I also carry either a Colt DS or a Smith 442...with the LEM trigger, it's not any different than a nicely tuned revolver, so all my triggers feels very similar, which helps when transitioning between them for carry...

3 day waiting period???? but I'm mad now!!!!!!

I have a P2000sk .40 with the light LEM trigger. The barrel length is shorter than the standard P2000, something that would not really be an issue for CCW. The P2000sk will also accept the standard P2000 or USPc magazines for the full CA-legal capacity 10+1. Using an HK part (X-Grip) to fill the gap between the SK's gun butt and the butt plate of the magazine, the grip becomes full size, for better or worse. For better concealment, staying with the shorter configuration has an advantage but is 9+1. Handling and control are very similar either way. But the longer magazine does stick out more than the shortie. Your physique could make the difference.

I just purchased my P30. I was curious about the LEM trigger and the dealer told me that they were near impossible to get. According to the dealer, in order for the HK shooting team to use a P30 with an LEM trigger, HK must bring in at least 500 to the states. They did that a little while back and were bought up immediately. I don't know what anyone else has heard about that, but that is why I just went with the SA/DA.
Both the P30 and P2000 are available in either caliber without safeties. The main difference between the two is going to be the size and grips. I though the P30 was small until I actually held it and compared it to my full size USP. They are about the same dimensions. Here are some dimensions to keep in mind with the HKs (all 9mm) compared to a Glock 19 (just a pistol size that most are familiar with)

                        Pistol_____HK P2000___HK USPcompact____HK P30____Glock19
                        Length(in)___7.00___________6.81_________6.99_____ _7.36
                        Height(in)___5.04___________5.00_________5.43_____ _5.04
                        Width(in)____1.34___________1.14_________1.37_____ _1.18

I have had the same dilemma, and I think I am going to get a USP compact eventually. Hope this helps some.

You CAN order the LEM conversion kit and swap it out yourself...waited 2 months but they will contact you when the parts are in

Thanks for the input everyone. I'm going to see what I can rent and shoot before I dive into an H&K. There are features that I will not compromise on. I'm pretty certain I want the LEM set up when / if I go with HK, so I'm sure something will come up...usually does!

Used to carry a USP Compact

I carried a USP Compact .40 for several years.

Pros: The gun is accurate and will fire whatever ammo you feed it (unless H&K's quality dropped since I purchased mine). Great slide surface for proactive/reactive manipulations and possibly the best mag release I have worked with.

Cons: High initial cost (I bought mine when they were ~$650), high bore axis, hammer-based system with external safety (yes, I see an external safety as a big minus). The pistol cannot be retrofitted with a Trijicon RMR with backup iron sights.

Other things to consider: mags are about $30 each + shipping on GB, holster selection can be limited depending on what you are looking for.

The gun served me well, but I found that I can conceal a Glock 19 with much more ease. Not to say that it won't work for you - this is just how things ended up working for me (preferred carry is A-IWB).
I retired the USP-c in favor of a striker-fired system. Same trigger pull every time works better for me - plus I've got a G19 equipped with an RMR sight - target acquisition is faster and long range accuracy is significantly improved. Due to slide setup this is not possible with the HK.

                              Just my $.02
