"Runs" on Mags and Guns in California?

Im working on compiling information regarding laws and the effects of legislation on commerce, so I ask the party here in California if before any of the various gun control laws took effect were there any kinds of runs on the sale and purchases of High-capacity magazines, AR-15s and AKs, and if the prices on any of these weapons and accessories went up or down before the laws took effect.

Feel free to move this thread where appropriate ,as this inquiry covers various firearms related topics.

In 2008 when Obama took office there were runs on ammunition which resulted in stores like Walkmart to be bone dry. People say that the recent increase is due to the upcoming election, which is a possibility I guess. Or it could be the result of more people taking up arms to protect themselves.

I personally have not increased or decreased anything. My purchasing for ammunition and firearms is only limited by my bank account at the moment.

Only thing I have seen is an increase in threads on ammo hoarding. So far, everything seems pretty normal to me.

Well, before the CA high cap law, and during the Clinton AW ban, you could buy a high cap mag for like $100-$200 (legally) in CA.

I remember a friend insisting (back in 1998) that I buy a $400-$500 AR-15 lower and registering it as an AW. I didn't listen to him. Oh well!

So yeah, there were price jumps and runs.

I lived in the Bay Area during the months preceding the 1989 assault weapons ban in California. There was an unbelievable increase in the sales of rifles specified in the ban, especially Colt AR-15's and HK 91's, 93's, and 94's.

Gun shops were charging prices that were higher than MSRP, and people were still purchasing the rifles that were soon to be banned. I believe the shops I visited literally sold every Colt and HK they had in stock.

We knew the AW ban and normal cap ( called high cap today) magazine ban was coming. We bought what we could. I own 11 Registered Assault Weapons today. Can't give them to my adult sons

Still have my preban magazines. Gonna keep them

            Be well, Bob

Yes on runs, and yes on price increases; but unless you're compiling information for a 3rd grade paper these replies should be useless to you as they are anecdotal. You should be looking to retail sales data, ATF 4473 submissions and, more recently, NICS submissions for verifiable statistical data.
