Hi all I am considering purchasing a PM40 for my ccw. I want a small carry pistol for quick trips the grocery store or real hot days in summer when I want to wear tank tops and board shorts. I have had trouble finding any decent reviews on the PM40 most have been on the PM9. I guess they are almost identical but what should I expect as the difference in between calibers. If anybody has a kahr PM series what do you think? Would you buy it again and why or why not. All imput is appreciated. Thanks guys.

can't comment on the pm40, but picked myself up a pm9 and i love it. i think it's pretty much the perfect ccw weapon. i have 100 rounds thru so far with 2 ftf's, nosedives with the 7 round mag. i have since done the mag follower mod but haven't tried it out yet. i'd recommend heading over to kahrtalk.com and checking out the info they have on their site. there is a really good thread about pre-prepping your new gun to check out. all in all i think the kahr pm series is a great blend of size, weight and ergo's. i don't think you'd be disappointed with a pm40. just my 2 cents.TacGunner530

Would you mind sharing what the mag mod is?Comment

I shot one and i have to say... if you're recoil sensitive this may not be the gun for you...especially with PD rounds. I decided that the PM9 was a better choice for me.A mugger, even an armed one, can only make a successful living in a society where the state has granted him a force monopoly.

I have a CM9 that I really like. There are some PM 40 guys that go the Magna Port route with the gun. I want a PM45!!
BTW, I did the prep as shown on Kahr talk, and have over 200 rounds with zero issues. It will replace my LC9 on my ccw once I feel it's broke in and trustworthy.Comment

I have the PM9, and what I have found is that it doesn't like long OAL. The Cor Bon DPX barely fit in the mag and FTF badly. Shorter ammo works reliably with the 6 round magazine. 7 round magazine may still may FTF even with the shorter ammo. I would load only 6 rounds when it may be critical.
I have tried the ProMag Magazine, but they have the same issue.Comment

it's called the slingshot mod i believe, there is a thread giving all the details on kahrtalk, but basically it involves sanding the follower so that the angle of the plastic fully supports the round so it can't nosedive. it was actually pretty easy to do, but i'll report back when i get a chance to shoot it. i just wish kahr would get on the ball and fix their mag problems.TacGunner530

I have a Kahr PM40 for CCW. It is very small and comfortable to carry, its actually smaller than my .38 j frame. I bought a Crossbreed Micro holster and I forget its there. Totally concealable.
The guy above is right that it has a decent recoil so if that bothers you ya may want to try a .38 or 9mm. Its not a range gun, its a self defense gun so i don't mind the kick. Its as to be expected since its a .40S&W in such a small package. Solid knock down power, it'll do the trick!
The gun shoots any ammo i give it, but it has trouble ejecting a chambered live round when I pull the slide back unless you use good ammo. Standard Federal HP rounds are too wide at the tip and get stuck. They shoot fine but FTE if you want to unload the gun. I bought Horandy SD ammo and it is perfect. No more issues. I'll save the cheap ammo for my Glock and better stuff for the Kahr.
I like my PM40. If I head out to the Rancho Shooting Center anytime soon i'll PM you so you can come shoot it if you want to.Comment

I like to train a lot and I found that it is not very comfortable to shoot very many rounds through at one time and I don't much care for the long trigger travel and no reset. I set out to use it for my carry weapon. Spent some time on the range with my trainer and we decided against it. Too much recoil in a small gun for long practice sessions and I much prefer a trigger with a reset.Comment

I have heard a lot of stories about Kahr's that are Perfectly Reliable. I had three and they never got to that point, even after trips to the factory. I do think that cartridge OAL is super important, and that nosediving is frequently caused by mag catches that are a tiny bit worn.*REMOVE THIS PART BEFORE POSTING*Comment

I had a pm40, but I didn't like shooting it with the recoil. I sold it and bought a pm9 and I love it! I also kind of wanted that extra round capacity. I would try to find someone you know that has one and shoot it. Or maybe call the ranges and see if someone has it for rent. It's an awesome gun and I carry it daily in a crossbreed minituck.
You must throw 200 rounds through it right away. That seems to break it in and rids it of failures.Comment

Happy MK9 owner here! Be different, get a Kahr!
Great, solid gun. Accurate right out the box.
