i was wondering, why isn't CA legal pistol magazines are not "permanently Modified". meaning it doesn't use epoxy, rivets, or welds and can easily dissembled
is there different rules for pistol and rifle mags?

I dont want it to turned into what is or is not permanently modified, i just want to know if there is different laws for pistol magazine.

its a fine line the law is about modifying a large capacity magazine to a fewer capacity magazine

the law does not specify magazines designed and built to contain 10 or fewer

so my theory is that since a replacement parts kit is not a magazine it is exempt from the permanantly modified provision but companies are playing it safe like how ar-15 manufacturers barely ever provide a gun with an m16 carrier

but i'm not a lawyer i'm just trying to understand the laws as they are written without going outside the 4 corners of the page

A lot of the time, 10 round pistol magazines are constructed differently. I know that the magazine tube for 10 round and 17 round Glock magazines are different. The external dimensions are the same, but the internal space in a 10 rounder is narrower.

in my usp, the only difference between high cap and 10 rd is the base plate. and sigs are followers

No, magazines are considered all together; no special law for either pistol or rifle or any other.

Are you sure... I'm looking at my USP & Sig magazines right now, both have shorter bodies with a longer base-plate, that sticks into the grip frame. That's where the restriction is and why you don't need to do anything to it... unless you know how to weld the magazine bodies together, those 10-rounders stay 10-rounders.

Usp has longer base plate, you can get standard base plate or cut the base plate to fit 10+ rds. I don't know about all but most digs have extended follower that stops the extra rds. What I'm saying is, they can be easily modified or changed to have extra rds

Most of the 10 round mags I have seen can't be modified to hold more than 10 rounds. As someone stated previously most of the 10 rounders have a shorter metal tube with a longer base pad. On XD9 mags hicaps are flat on the sides while the 10 rounders have a crease running up the middle. The last version I can think of is the mags are restricted by a dimple in the sides of the mag and they also have a fine horizontal cut around the mag. If you try and drill out the dimple, the mag will break in half at the cut.Here's a sig mag and a promag with the dimple.

Maybe one day when the law makers wake up and realize there is no reason to allow 10 round but not 11 that mad will come in handy haha.
