Taurus M92???

So ive been looking into getting my first 9mm pistol. Have seen the taurus m92 two tone stainless for a decent price. Anyone have any pros/cons on this pistol? I tried searching the forums but couldn't really find much info on this. I read that Taurus purchased Beretta and took the 92 model and improved some parts on it. Is it any different or better than the Beretta? Will be using for target practice/home defense. Thanks !

Sacrilege!

Taurus' decision to leave the slide clear of obstructions, unlike the safety/decocker on the Beretta (the only knock on an otherwise fine pistol - but a BIG one!) actually makes the Taurus somewhat preferable to the Beretta 92.

Taurus for the win.

Very fine pistol. The internal finish/tool marks is not as refine as Beretta but well justify for its price different.

Current Taurus might look very similar but it has evole to very different gun with Beretta now. Other than barrel and barrel locking system, most part are not interchageable (including mag, grip, trigger...etc).

Make sure you stick to the PT92 fixed sight model and avoid the PT99 adjustable sight model like the plague. Rear sight is held on by a tiny little roll pin. I shot the sights off my PT101 (.40S&W) and Taurus had me send the slide to them. They didn't replace the sights, they replaced the whole slide. It then wouldn't go on my gun because of a slight change in machining making my guide rod too thick for the new slide. Asked CS for a new guide rod. Out of stock. A year and a half later, sent new guide rod. Pistol now works but I haven't shot it in years because of this. Won't sell either of them, (PT99 and PT101) because I have design spec mags. When the zombies come, I won't worry about sights.

I defer to your semi auto experience, and I would add every Taurus revolver I have owned has worked perfectly.

That is true. I have always hear their revolver line are solid. My opinion were strictly for their semi auto pistols.

Better solution would have been to use a small nail, the type you'd hang a small picture frame up with, and trim it to size to replace the pin. I hear this works wonders and will last YEARS - much better than the factory pin that holds the sights in place.

Taurus did not buy Beretta (as far as I know) And as I understand it, for a minute Taurus used Beretta's tooling to make their 92. While I like the "extra feature" of the Taurus, I'll take the Beretta 92 every day of the week! My pistol smith works on both, and according to him, the quality between the two is night & day......

Thanks for the input guys. Is there a difference between Taurus m92 and PT92? Same thing i am assuming? With this pistol being such a affordable price, definitely picking one up in the next week or so.

I love my Taurus PT-92! Mine was manufactured in 1991 and still looks and functions great. It has a little bit of wear but it just add's character

As what I said on post #3. They are very different in term of parts. The "style" are similar but most parts beside the barrel can not interchangeable.

A couple years back I shot a friends old used 1980's taurus 92 which had some rust and looked like its never been cleaned, yet out of the 200 - 250 rounds I shot through it I can't recall a single failure to anything and was accurate as I was. If you can't fork out the money for a beretta or just don't want to the pt 92 is defiantly a good (probably the best) alternative.

Are you sure about the 1991 manufacture? I bought my Taurus brand new in 1992. They did not have the decocker on them then. Mine has no decocker. My PT101 is a few years newer and has the decocker.

For $200 less than the Beretta and with a 1911 style safety, the Taurus 92 is a great deal if you are in the market for a Beretta style pistol.

I had a friend buy one, I shot about 300 rounds through it one afternoon and it was a fine gun. I ended up buying a S&W M&P9 over the Taurus 92 because I couldn't get over the customer complaints on other Taurus models. But, from what I hear and have experienced the Taurus 92 is a good pistol.
