Odd glock 17 gen3/ gen 4 question

I' am pretty new to the semi auto handgun world I can shoot very well but machanicly interms of modding and fixing etc...

I wanted to purchase a glock 17 gen 4 but They're not legal in Ca I guess? One of my questions... With the Gen4 they made the rod out of metal and put I belive dual stainless steel springs. Can I put that set up on a new Glock 17 gen 3 if they are both the same model/ size etc? I own a SA 9mm 4inch that I really like But for some reason I can get about 1/2in better grouping with a glock 17.

Sorry if its a silly question I just like how heavy duty the parts are on my SA and was curious if you can do the same to a Glock.

Alright then thanks for the quick info. I am a fan of the glock because of a noticleably grouping difference is there anyway to mechanicly improve my accuracy with my SA 9MM 4inch? I talked to a coeworker and he mentioned something about getting the trigger re-done and polishing the slide? I have been putting in some major practice with my grip and technique with various positions so im looking for a possible mechanical improvement.

if the guide rod is what worries you there are plenty of aftermarket compaines that make a stainless guide rod for the older glocks.

FWIW, the stock guide rod is plenty reliable. If you are worried about it, you can either replace it or just buy a couple extras for back-up.

Having said that, if you really want a Gen. 4, why not do a single shot exemption (SSE). You can get one of them legally through this method, although you will need to find an FFL who is able to do that for you.

FWIW, the stock guide rod is plenty reliable. If you are worried about reliability, buy a 1911

most gen 3/gen4 parts are not interchangeable including the guide rod. I picked up a gen4 glock 19 from valkyrie arms in milpitas. They had a gen4 17 there a while ago, you should check them out

Another member in my local area informed me of this single shot exemption? so basicly I can legally purchase a glock 17 gen4 if its modified for singleshot only or?

sorry this is BRANDNEW to me and Im in the military so i don't want to get in trouble over an technicalities.... can I bring it to the range or do most ppl mod it to shoot semi and just dont get caught or?

I just picked up my Gen 4 glock 17 on Tuesday using the SSE. Very easy process through Wild Bills in Elk Grove. It shot very nice using reloads also...
