Hello all.
So yesterday i broke my brand new Glock 30SF from the DROs jail. Picked it up from The Glock Store in San Diego a half an hour after i could. Here's my take on my first sub (or subbish) compact pistol.
First and foremost the pistol feels amazing with the mag in. If you were to grip it without the mag it's a completely different pistol. I already own a Glock 21, and 17 so im already familiar with the pistol and it's workings. Off the bat i had the "3.5" connector installed (which actually ends up being around 4 pounds). Vince over at Glock Store was awesome and extremely helpful with the whole exchange.
So i get to the range; First thing i notice is that the gun is STIFF. But it's brand new and that's expected. The mags were not as hard to load as my 21 when it was brand new. I was shooting 230 gr CCI Blazer aluminum cased, and about 30 rnds of Corbon 165 gr JHP. Had 0 issues.
Loaded up both mags, and hastily started blasting away at the target at 7 yards. Initially i was all over the place, mainly left and low left. I have noticed with my Glocks they like to shoot low left when they're brand new and not broken in (Took ~200 rnds to break my 17 in). Trigger was crisp; One thing i noticed is that it shoots a lot smoother than most .45's, especially most with a smaller barrel. Kick was more than controllable and sight reset was easy as pie. It almost sends the recoil straight back into your arms which makes it a blast to shoot. After slicing my finger on one of the new mags and proceeding to bleed all over everything i got back to shooting. As i was through maybe about a box of ammo i was noticing the mag was kind of biting the pad of my pinky finger during the shot. Obviously i was keeping my pinky in between the frame and the mag. Although annoying (and kinda weird) all i had to do was adjust where my pinky sat and problem solved. I had read that people had trouble racking the slide back with a full 10 rnd mag. And even with the new mags it wasn't any more difficult than any other .45's i've experienced.
I brought 200 rnds of ammo with me with the intention of breaking the pistol in in the first range session. It's safe to say i succeeded. by about 150 rnds it was starting to punch holes where holes had already been made. The thing is stupid accurate for such a small pistol. By the end of my 4th box i was putting rounds through the same hole consistently at 10 yards. By consistently i mean 7 rnds out of 10 (and the other 3 were probably me just not shooting as well as the pistol could). Even with the 10 rnd mag loaded it is still extremely light for a .45, and not as fatiguing to shoot i feel like. After 200 rnds my hands were not as beat as they would be with the 21.
All in all, i am happy with my purchase and would recommend this firearm to anyone. After all, it is Glock perfection right?
And it's worthless without pics right? So here ya go, even though they're crappy i feel like they'll do.
