    Sig 1911 and holsters

All you Sig 1911 guys out there...

What holster are you using? I'm having a difficult time finding something that I know will work for me. Most of the local shops don't carry a huge variety to actually look at in person and do any sort of fit test. I would be using it mostly for IDPA matches. I think I'm leaning toward leather because it will have a little give-way for the more squared up barrel shape of the Sig (versus standard 1911's), but not sure what is really out there and what will actually fit and work with the Sig 1911.

I have the Target Nitron 5".

    Thanks.

Mine fits a standard 1911 leather holster. I did have to put the pistol in a thick plastic bag and use cotton swaps with water to stretch the leather a little. It took about 2-3 days playing with it, and leaving the gun in the bag in the holster overnight for the 2-3 days I was stretching it with water.

Works great now. Good tight fit for retention, but doesnt hang up at all when you draw it.

I went with a cheap holster from Arizona Gun Leather just to try out IDPA sometime. Maybe this summer I'll have a chance to play.

      Thanks Postal.

      Anybody else?

Anybody find an off the shelf holster that works well?

        Wondering about this myself...

Is it possible to heat up a Kydex type holster, and get it to re-mold to the Sig?

        Thoughts from the collective?

Steelplate45 - I've kinda thought the same thing, but can't shake the feeling of sticking my firearm into (in my mind at least) hot, molten "plastic"... I know the kydex is not plastic and it's not molten, but can't shake that image in my head.

I've got a Serpa that I thought about doing this with, but didn't want to ruin it. You know for possibly using it on my next 1911.

As opposed to postals method, which takes me right back to childhood and getting a new baseball mit and forming it over a few days. Now, that's a good memory for probably many of us...

Blackhawk Serpa lines are not kydex... it's just molded plastic. You'll just end up melting it if you heat those holster. As for 1911... the Serpa's are actually good for the Sigs because it's not molded to the gun. It'll fit all different brands of 1911, just make sure you get the one that's made for the rail verison if you have rails on your Sig.

As for Kydex... not a issue with putting your gun in it. Been doing it forever... your gun gets hotter discharging the round. Kydex is moldable at 160-180 deg. I use the lowest setting on a griddle hot plate to heat my stuff... it's not even hot enough to melt regular plastic grips on my Sig 226.

For those thinking about re-molding their Kydex... yes you can, I've done it. It's just ugly cause it's hard to hand-mold.... I ended up making a wooden press that did a better job.

@NewbieDave - I would disagree with you. I have a Serpa and it does NOT fit my Sig 1911. Can I get it in there, yes. Can I get it out, yes. Does it "fit" NO.

Found this one on Amazon. Made by same company, but looks to be an older model of sorts. I think I like this one better as it doesn't have the retention to deal with and perhaps better for the IDPA...thoughts...

I use for my Sig 1911's the Galco Siloutte and the Galco Cop. both fit the 1911 with rails nicely!

Hmmm... nm. I just checked with my buddy, he's using a Sig1911 Traditional Tacops with his Serpa Lvl2 thigh rig. I guess Sig actually has two different slide design, a fatter one that don't fit most holster... and their traditional, which is spec after the regular 1911 spec.

Sheeez... talk about making things complex.

The Traditional Sig 1911's are just like the standard Colt that everyone knows and loves. If it isn't a Traditional model, it's like mine and many others on here with the fatter portion on the top of the slide and even underneath is a bit wider...

Seems like the ITAC is the only thing out there that is specifically made with/for the Sig 1911 non-traditional models.

The other best option may be to get leather for a traditional model and work it out a bit as postal did.

Besides the ITAC, I was checking out the Don Hume for this option.

It would be nice if Sig was going to go so nontraditional that they would at least make some accessories that would work with it in a reasonable amount of abundance. Perhaps, that IS the ITAC and why it actually has the Sig Sauer branding on it. hmmm.

I took a Black Hawk Serpa put it in the oven for 10min at 200, spread it, slid my Sig in, and let it cool. It works great! I also have a Old Faithful IWB holster that it fit with out any modifications.

Sig 1911 Rail fits in the Serpa just fine if you adjust the tension screw properly. It's tight and the draw grabs the holster until it's adjusted right, then it works smooth and perfectly.

The Galco King Tuk works well, as does the Galco CON612B (with a little stretching) http://www.usgalco.com/HolsterPG3.as...4053&GunID=526
I picked up the King Tuk for $60 and the CON612B for $70.

Traditional Sig 1911 Rail may fit in the Serpa just fine if you adjust the tension screw properly, but not sure I would believe it if its not a traditional model unless I see for myself. Not exactly sure how you adjust the tension screw improperly...it's a screw...

Mine was very far from smooth and perfectly with the adjustments... Perhaps you are referring to a Traditional model. If that's the case I can believe it.
