P229: New Slide On Old Model?

I have an old model of the P229 with the half slide serrations. Does anyone know if I would be able to use a new P229 slide with full slide serrations on mine?

You might want to double check if your P229 is 9mm.

The new 229s are based on the .40 frame.

I have read that the New p229 9mm frames have a wider mag-well thats why they can't take the 15 round mags.

      From TopGun Supply

"SIG SAUER P229 E2 15 round magazine for 9mm E2 P229 models. These magazines will not fit P228's or P229 9mm's that typically use 9mm 13RD magazines. The E2 and some of the recent P229 9mm models use a .40S&W frame which has a larger diameter magazine well. Matte phosphate finish. ""

When they introduced the new long extractor on the 229 they also standardized the frames on the slightly wider .40/.357 frame and dropped the marginally thinner 9mm frame.

This means that in the new platform you can now interchange .40/.357 slides with 9mm ones whereas you could not before.

Older 9mm P229 frames will only match up with older 9mm slides.

Older .40/.357 frames and new (new meaning with the new long external extractor) 9mm P229 frames will match up with either older .40/.357 slides, new .40/.357 slides, or newer 9mm slides.

The change is small enough that the old 9mm magazines will work in the new wider frames (they may wobble a bit but won't fall out), but the new wider 9mm magazines won't fit into the old frames.

You could always call Sig, they answer questions without laughing.

The new serrations are pretty cool if you ask me, but I've heard the slide in and of itself is different. I'd call Sig to be sure, but from the look of it, its not interchangeable.
