    RIA 1911 (9mm)

I been doing some research on the 1911 platform over the past few weeks and I decided to finally give in and purchase my first. I have been browsing the Rock Island Armory line-up as it seems to be the most popular entry level 1911 pistols. I wanted to see if anyone here can share their experience with the 9mm RIA caliber? 9mm is something I always have on hand as my nightstand is a G17. It will solely be a range gun and more of a collection piece than anything. I limited my budget at $600 including dros/ca tax. Would be great to know if there are any gun shops in the East Bay/South Bay that carry RIA pistols. I plan to make a visit to Target Masters tomorrow.

I'm not sure if it would be that much cheaper than SSE, but you could get the 38 super and convert it to a 9mm.

Expect to spend 625-675 after tax and dros because it is not on the roster. It is a very sweet gun to shoot. Get the Tactical version instead of the GI version.

Mike at Tracy Rifle and Pistol ordered my RIA 9mm Tactical for me (SSE). It was $604 out the door. I had a thread about it here last week. Click on my screen name to search for the thread, if interested. I now have 350 rounds of FMJ and 100 rounds of JHP through it. I have had three FTFs, all with JHP. I am very happy with the gun overall and would recommend it, as well as T.R.A.P. as a source for any firearms purchases.

Have the .45 and love it. Bought it off a LEO for 300; he threw in like 3 holsters and hogue grips. It's the GI though, so it has pretty bad sights.

If you get one, you want to get the tactical (much better sights) and consider getting a trigger job down the line. As far as cycling and barrel accuracy, it's pretty damn good for the price. Just make sure to get some good mags, like Novak or Wilson

I would do a SSE on a tactical 9mm. But, if you are interested in doing it yourself and creating your own custom 1911 then you could always buy a RIA 1911 38 super(which is on the list) and convert it to 9mm. There have been a lot of people on this forum with success in doing the conversion, including me. Then you can have 2 calibers in 1 gun.

Since you are going to Milpitas, Valkyrie arms may have some RIA 1911 9mm (SSE). Last i saw, the Tactical version was about mid $500s. Give them a call. Great group of people there.

I went today and Valkyrie only had the RIA Commander. Target Masters had both the GI ($444) and the Tactical ($509) before dros/tax.
I'll try calling Valkyrie tomorrow and see if they can order/SSE the 9mm. $625-675 isn't too bad of a price considering the cost of ammo.
and I don't understand why the stainless steel and "blued" finishes aren't CA approved
