    Training in the Bay Area?

Hi, I'm interested in some of the topics at Reed's Indoor Range but their classes cost more than I want to spend right now and each class has a prereq so they just about have to be completed sequentially.

Does anyone recommend any cheaper training alternatives in the bay area?
    TIA

You might want to clarify what type of training you are looking for. Reeds has a great instructor that teaches at their range. The only prerequisite that I'm aware of is if you have no experience working off the body, then you need to take the Stage I defensive handgun class to learn safety / draw stroke / etc. After that, the two-day Stage II class is the next step. From there, you can take whatever other classes you choose.

Thanks. I'm looking for defensive training in the most common situations, and maybe more far-fetched situations once I feel like the handgun is just like another organ of mine.

I was looking at videos instead but still won't have a place to practice. Though come to think of it, dry firing/magic bullet might suffice for now.

Chabot looks interesting, under $100 for anyone else interested.

          Louis is worth the money...

I have taken many of his classes. Yes, it is a lot of money, but, what I learned will save my life someday.

Before my niece started USPSA, I paid for her Level 1 class at Reeds. In my extended family, too many cousins have lit up their leg while reholstering.

Just checked Reed's website, those classes sure look pricey. Stage 1, 1 day $300, Stage 2, 2 day, $500, stage 3, 1 day, $300. Keep in mind this is indoor by removing regular shooting lanes. Not some custom built facilities for mall ninja training.

I took a 1 on 1 intermediate pistol class at Bullseye in San Rafael once, and it was just over $200 I believe. Learned a lot at the time.

I didn't know that Louis Awerbuck taught classes in the Bay Area.

He is a national recognized top flight instructor. It is a bit pricey, but I'd even consider the drive down to take a class from him.

Does anyone know how large the classes are at this price?

I've taken a few classes with him at Reed's. It's typically 12 students per class.

The one day is pretty expensive @ $300...Gunsite charges that per day rate for their week long classes and most other top flight guys are charging ~$200-$250/day. Of course you'd spend at least that if you had to travel...staying in a hotel and eating meals

His two-day rate is pretty mainstream

I've taken a couple of classes at Reeds from Louis, and even though the prices are a little high, the instruction is tough to beat.

To the OP, if you're looking for top quality defensive gun use instruction in the Bay Area, Louis Awerbuck's classes at Reeds are the way to go.

That was kinda' my point. It's hard to beat the individual instruction that you get in his classes. He limits them to eight to twelve people depending on the class. Talk to folks that have taken classes with him and you will see that he is a very insightful instructor. It's a no BS style of instruction that is based on real world experience.

Check out Tactical Training Associates in Morgan Hill. There's a handgun 1 class coming up at the end of the month.
