    Transporting handguns?

Hey everyone, Im new to this forum. I apologize if I post this in the wrong location so please move it if it is.

Heres my question, I live in Pennsylvania and have to fly out to California to receive 2 handguns that were left to my by my grandmother in her will. Ive never had to transport firearms via aircraft and was wondering how do I go about this? I know different airlines have different policies for going about this so ill have to look into that myself. Also Im over 18 years old but not yet 21. I know in PA you can transfer handguns from grandparents to grandchildren without havign any paperwork or going though a dealer, (I figure its not like that out there). At the airport do I have to purchase 2 TSA approved locked boxes or can I just use my own? Do I have to go to a dealer and get them transfered to me or one of my parents? Also will TSA run the serial numbers to see that I am infact the lawful owner?

EDIT: I am a PA resident, and they were CA residents if that matters.

    Thanks for the help

Ah, you need to see two different wiki articles:

http://wiki.calgunsfoundation.org/In...and_Interstate -- you don't need an FFL for inheritance, and

http://wiki.calgunsfoundation.org/Flying_with_firearms -- TSA doesn't care, and you can use your own hard-sided container.

Welcome to the forum, and enjoy your new guns!

Don't forget to file the OPLAW form, 1 form and 1 $19 fee for all the handguns you bring back, not each one.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

Is that the case for taking guns OUT? Can one get guns unregistered in California?
Never initiate force against another. That should be the underlying principle of your life. But should someone do violence to you, retaliate without hesitation, without reservation, without quarter, until you are sure that he will never wish to harm - or never be capable of harming - you or yours again.

I know for PA there isnt any fees you have to pay to bring firearms into the state under circumstances like this. As for taking them out of California im not too sure. Please cite statues if available. Thanks guys!!

Not very effectively; there is a 'No Longer In Possession' form for handguns. (Not needed for long guns, until 2014)

Librarian, he is coming into CA just to pick up the handguns and taking them back to his home state, so he wouldn't need to file an OPLAW form, would he?

I collect Military Arms and enjoy shooting in local matches. I also collect older Lever Actions, especially those chambered in odd/old cartridges. If you have a nice old Winchester or Marlin in 25-20, 32-40, 38-55, 40-60, 45-70, etc etc, please PM me and we can work out a deal.

And, since the transfer takes place in CA, does he need a HSC?

Ah, no - I read it as coming INTO CA, sorry. No doc required to take them out.
