    Sig 2022, .40 or 9mm?

I have been looking to get a new handgun and this is what I am thinking about getting.

Note I have a limited budget around 500. I have a few questions.

    1. Anybody have this gun? How is it?
    2. .40 or 9mm? Is there a big difference? Also I have a .22lr so I got something to shoot on the cheap.
    3. Any other suggetions on a gun?

Also, I would prefer a solid framed pistol over polymer but cost is an issue. The simplier the better. I also prefer something with a hammer.

Thanks in advance any input would be appreciated.

If it's your first pistol, go 9mm. Otherwise the sig pro is excellent value. I'm going .40 with it next time I have the money. I've used all 3 calibers for it.

Loved my SP2022. Getting rid of it because I just like different systems and want to consolidate my collection. Can't really hate the gun.

I love mine. I have a 9mm to keep consistant with ammo (trying to minimize calibers).

          I've already got a .40 so I will be picking up a .9mm.

9mm is cheaper and 9mm 147grain JHP will outperform (slightly) a .45 acp @ 230 grain...I have a balistics pic that shows, but I'll have to sig it up.

I have the 2022 in the .40 Its a great gun. I used to have the P229 in the 40 and went with this for cost and am very happy with it no regrets at all. I'm actually looking at buying the 9mm next. It has a great feel and nice weight. The polymer frame is not an issue for me. The only thing I did was purchase a Stainless Steel guide rod and replace the plastic one.

the 40 is going to have more kick than the 9mm. It will be a far cry from the 22lr. The 9mm will also be cheaper to shoot. In my opinion it will really be up to what you are more comfortable shooting.

I have both the 9 and 40. If its your first gun, go 9. The 2022 is my EDC now that I'm a retired LEO.

                9mm.

I wanna sell my sig pro .40 and get a 9mm instead.

I dunno, you gotta shoot both to get the feel. .40 has way too much snap.

Can't beat the 9MM. Cheaper to shoot and still good PD caliber if the right JHPs are used. I have the old SIG PRO 2009 model. I've had it for 8 years now and haven't had any issues. I would put this polymer gun up to a Glock anyday. Only gripe is the lack of aftermarket accessories.

Thanks guys for the info. I am thinking maybe 9mm now. I have been having thoughts of a larger caliber only because my buddy just got a .45, and the man in me says BIGGER IS BETTER!

Also, when someone asks "is this your first gun" do you mean handgun or gun in general?
But this would be my first real handgun.

                      I currently have two 12 guages, a saiga 7.62x39, and a 22lr pistol.

My friend has a P226 in .40 and even though it is a slightly heavier gun than the SP2022, the snap can be a little annoying. So I'm pretty sure the snap would be amplified a bit on the lighter SP2022.

Go for the 9 mm. Ammo is cheaper, quicker follow-up shots due to lower recoil and not as much "snap" as the .40.

lol! I doubt you will wanna buy it, mine has "battle scars" already.

Besides, I shouldn't sell it, I still like the fact that I have a .40 gun. Something tells me that I will be shooting the 1911 and p226 way more anyways.

I meant pistol. And yea I'd def get it in 9mm. Its a good caliber with affordable ammo. Those Sig Pro's are excellent, good choice.

I have the .40, but wish I'd got the 9, just for a little cheaper shooting.

Do get the night sights, tho. If you hunt around a bit there are screaming deals on 2022s now and then.
