    SIG MK25

I have a minty German P226 that I like. Is SIG MK25 worth buying? Just to have. I like the Navy connection. I never shot ro owned a recent SIG.

Or will it be just have another SIG in the safe?

It's worth buying if you are easily advertised to. A nice gun for sure, but your German 226 wasn't made under the (not so) watchful eye of Ron cohen's QC (or lack thereof).

In other words, what you've got now is a finer pistol.

The german, for only reason. The navy is gone, MK25 replaced it for there product line. The Mk25 will cost more, it will have to be SSE'd and the German is cheaper and easier to get. Both have rails so its sorta whatever you want more. I'd love a MK25 just for the coated internals. Love a gun that can take a abuse, but the German 226 will take anything you can dish out.

Got a recent stainless 226 and couldn't be happier with the performance. I know a lot of people rip on the Exeter Sig's, but I don't buy it.

I hear only good things I've shot probally more new sigs on this forum than most. I've shot in excess of 15 just in this last year, different models, calibers etc... The quality is there. Now if you said P250......well thats a different story

They work great and heck even the trigger was smoother than my W. German ever was.

                  S.I.G. quality is still there.
Just more lemons since they became one of the biggest firearms manufacturers in the U.S.A.

I don't want to speak negative about SIG's. I just speak form experience. I qualify many officers at the range at work. I see problems with recent SIG's.

We shoot them fast, reload fast, run with them etc. If we shot them slow fire , like on most civilian ranges maybe I would not see what I see.

I hear that newer Sigs now come with magazines made by Checkmate, which, from my research on the Internet, seems to be of a lower quality than magazines made from other manufacturers (i.e., Mec-Gar). Have you seen a lot of problems related to the new magazines?

I can't speak for the Checkmate mags since I never used them and sold them. I had Mecgar mags already and have only used them with my 226. If there is truth to the current mags being lower quality than the Mecgar, that might be a source for the issues people are experiencing with newer Sigs.

I'm curious, how many people have issues with their Sigs? What vintage is it and and what mags are you using with them?

Ok.For my personal SIG P226 I have a older SIG magazines and Desert Storm green Italian( SIG marked) magazines which are solid in the back.

I DO notice problems with RECENT SIG's with RECENT magazines.

Officers who carry older SIG's in 9mm and 45 with OLDER magazines seem not to have any issuses.

The most reliable SIG's IMHO are the German P225 single stack and Older P220's in 9mm.

The only pistol that I have NEVER seen to fail with US MADE factory ammo and factory magazines is a Beretta 92FS.

PS. I have been working for uncle Sam and for LE most of my life. When WE test different weapons , we only test them in original factory configuration , with OEM magazines and top quality ammo . A LOT of ammo.

When new handguns are NOT tested that way ( Cheap magaiznes, cheap ammo, aftermarket parts etc) You can never get a real picture.

I actually tried one today! Interesting, the finish wasnt like mecgars, nor was the follower. I guess one could say it "looked" and "felt" cheaper. I had no issues, 400 rounds down the pipe later. Flawless. It sounds as though most people stick with mecgar anyways, there cheaper than Sig factory (yes there is a sig factory mag). In any case, not all models or calibers are switching to this, it seems as though its only for particular models. The one I tried today was on a P226.

I run more rounds a year than the average LEO does through mine. Most departments around here only qualify 2-4 times a year and I hardly ever hear of it being more. 500-1500 rounds a qual. Even so yes they do run them harder than most regular joes do.

It sounds like you've already answered your question, then dont get one. If you've seen that many issues it may not be worth it. I've seen slightly more lemons come out of Sig, but not lower in overall quality, in some areas they've improved greatly, others not so much (grips/p250 etc...).
