Yet Another 228? Advice please.

So, my fave 228 is an older W German that is worn here and there but still a terrific shooter. Trouble is, I still stop and check out any newer versions that pop up for sale.

Lately, I came across a $700 228r that is lnib. The owner bought 2 thinking it was going to be a limited production item. Now, he's in need of $$$ and is offering it shipped for $725. He's even willing to break down two factory 13rnd mags and ship to my ffl.

I don't think it's exactly pretty... But I like that it's not just another 228.

By the way, tell him to include a 10 round mag and ship the kits to your house, just to avoid confusion.

Ah, the railed P228. I remember when Sig came out with these. Isn't it just a P228 slide on a P229R frame? I'm still partial to the W. German P228...it's just a classic 9mm pistol. But I wouldn't mind having one of these P228R's. That one looks to be in pretty good shape. Looks like a good deal for you.

despite the desirability of the w german P228... $650.00 should get you more than a "beat to hell" example.

This is correct. These P228R's are just that, assembled with left over P228 slides paired with P229R (9MM) frames. Nothing wrong with that, but if it was my money, I would rather wait until I found a pristine old school P228.

I wonder if that is from the batch of LE trade-in SIG 226s and 228s from the middle of last year.

They were going for $399 in San Jose and $450 in Sacto

True, I'd grab it. I still think that price is a tad pricey but its a more rare P228 in a sense. I'd buy it.

He's shipping to my ffl tomorrow. So, now I'll have a WGerman 228, a German/American 228 and a 228r.
None of my 226, 229 or Pro 9mm Sigs shoot as sweetly as my 228s.

The Sig Pro is AWESOME. Been 100% so far.

As far as Made in Germany or not; All the sheet metal slides will be German made as Sigarms (SIG SAUER USA) doesn't build them the old fashioned way (from stampings). So if they have serial numbers on frame slide and barrel they were made in Germany. If they have made in Germany on the frame and slide, your best bet is that the components were mfg'd in germany but the firearm was assembled here in the US.
