    What is your opinions between a new M&P 9 vs. SW99 in excellent condition? Pro's & Con's..
It would be just for range & practice.

I had an SW99 in .40 and I have shot the MnP40 a bit too. The primary difference between the two is their operation. SW99 is a DA/SA with decocker and double strike capability, while the MP is more like a true striker fired DA. I think the MP is more refined, and I really like the design a little more, but the SW99 operation was pretty cool, and the grip fit me perfectly.

I have an SW99 and it's okay. I hate the decocker on it. Honestly, I would trade 2 SW99's for an M&P. (not that I have 2).

Semi on-topic. I went to the range tonight to 1) shoot my Glock 19 and 2) try out if they had them, the following: S&W M&P 9mm; FN FNP 9mm. They did not have the FNP but they did have a SA XD 9mm.

I tried the M&P first and I liked it! Dismayingly, I shot much better with it than my G19 that I have put about 800rds through already. This is probably because it's full-sized? It felt great in my hands and I liked the feel of the trigger ok, but my groups weren't as great as I'd like.

After just 50rds with the M&P, I asked if they had an FNP and was a bit disappointed when they said no, so I said meh screw it and asked for the XD (and it looked the epitome of a range horse, rode hard & put away dirteh). I shot twice as well with that as I did with the M&P!! I didn't even really care for how the XD felt in my hands compared to the M&P. Using the thumbs-forward method of grip (which is all I really know), the take-down tab sometimes had a biting-effect that was annoying but not too bad.

Throughout magazines of either the M&P or the XD I would go back to my Glock, and everytime I shot better groups with the range rentals than with my own glock. This is after I have installed a Ghost 3.5 connector with NY-1 Trigger spring. It felt like the Glock's trigger had a much longer, heavier pull than either of the other two.

One thing I like about the XD is the 1911-style thumb-web safety. I have my Glock for primarily range-fun, but also have it at home for SD. I know I'll get flames for this, but I haven't gotten comfortable with keeping a round in the chamber at home. I do, however, feel ok with keeping a round in the chamber in my 1911 (frame safety on! But it's "at camp" with the gunsmith having some dovetail sights installed). I think I'd feel more comfortable keeping a RITC in the XD with it's thumb-safety more than in my Glock.

I'd still like to try out an FNP, but no ranges around me seem to have a rental. Plus in the brief time that I handled one at Turners, it felt bigger than it should have been for a 9mm, almost as big as an HK USP 45.

What were we talking about, again lol. Anyways, by far, I shoot the best with my new-to-me RIA 1911 GI .45. The stock trigger just amazes me, but I suppose that's what you get having only had experience recently with striker triggers.

M&P by far. They fit in your hand like a dream and if they don't, you can always adjust it with the grip system. Very accurate as well!

I thought the M&P was created to replace the Sigma and SW99.

The Sigma was a nice idea that has many flaws and the SW99 Walther copy was a compromise until Smith and Wesson got the gun they really wanted to make right in the M&P.

Yup... I love my SW99, but the M&P is so much more... they took the good things from what they learned with the Sigma and SW99 and put those into the M&P. definitely the next purchase for me.

Absolutely love my M&P 9. I've put about 3000 rounds through it so far and have not had one issue whatsoever! It runs like a champ!

I own A M&P 40 and SW990L .40, which is basicly the same as sw99 without the decocker and like the grip better on the sw990 and the fact that it also doesnt have a magazine disconnect like the M&P but i shoot better with my M&P 40 so go figure....
