    Dawson ICE Magwell???

    I am looking to install a bigger magwell on my 1911 for my single stack division.

    I look at Dawson Ice Magwell: http://www.dawsonprecision.com/Produ...A70-1254851326

    I am wondering what is the different before GAP and no GAP version?

    I currently have the S&A magwell installed.

    Looking for your comments or experience. Thanks.

    The first question I have is when reloading on the clock do you hit the well or are you able to find the sweet spot?

    When I was new to the action pistol game reloads were my biggest Achilles heel so to speak. It was awful, making a quick grab for the mag and missing the magwell so far I dropped the mag.

    What helped me the most was to set up reduced sized targets around the house, dry practice and get my reloads down. It helped me improve by a huge margin dropping mags and reloading in the house before a match. The gun I was using did not even have a magwell and after some practice it was not needed. Just 10 minutes a day, 3 times a week and I think you will find no need for another magwell.

    Sorry, this was not your question but i thought it might help.

      Pics in their site for help/reference...

      No gap -> http://www.dawsonprecision.com/Produ...A4A-1248106887

      With the gap, you can use standard magazines. There is a gap there for the magazine bottom plate to fit in.

      With no-gap, you will need to remove the base plate, and install a base plate not sticking out, they sell those as well.

      Subjective/my opinion, a gap there will look ugly.

          Just to give you more options... I've been using Wilson's mag-well with great results. Not as pricey and gets the job done, and it's way liter compared some of the other offering.

            Just depends on what magazines you are going to use most often. I like the extended floor plates on the Wilson mags.
