Who made my magazines?

I bought magazines from so many gun shows etc (and quite a while ago) that I lost track of who made them.

on the side is a window that shows the follower (when it bottoms out) and Made in USA (followed by a patent number I can't read w/o finding my glasses first)

Anywaze. Hopefully this looks similar to a mag someone else on here bought. Was thinking of contacting them for replacement springs (or do you think Wolff +5% would suffice?). Their followers look different than my OEM magazines.

They're for my 228 and hold 13 rounds.

Have you tried them? I have some promag cz 75 mags that work just fine. The stock springs in them were a little weak but they worked. I upgrade the springs to wolf.

I think they're Pro Mag. You'd see alot of that garbage at gun shows. Pro Mags are US made.

Yes toss the promags they will cause the most reliable firearms on earth to fail.
Sig fairly recently made some mags such as the 20 rounds 9mm mags for the tac ops and they say made in usa however I think they still use mec gar and put their label on them for a lot as well which always say made in italy.

You can rebuild it with all mecgar parts except for the spring. Then replace the promag spring with a mecgar spring. Problem solved and now you have a reliable 10+ round magazine. That's what I was talking about.

Niiice. I did that with some Ramline 226 and 228 mags previously (so now my carry mags are 18 and 15 rnd MecGars). I was looking to just re-spring these range magazines.

In all fairness, these have been shooting range reliable for quite some time. 3 of the 6 started ftf at the 4day handgun class this past week.

They don't make them in Exeter...but then they haven't made them in Germany in years either. They German magazines will have either dovetail or zipper backs.

OEM magazines for SIG have long been from Italy (Mec-Gar) and more recently domestic (Checkmate)...it is a recent change and isn't on all models yet

Thanks for the update, I've handled dozens of new Sigs the past two years and even in the last few months. Never seen them with anything but Mecgar and OEM (Sig factory). Needless to say I'm not surprised its not in all models yet, I've been hearing mixed things sadly about them. Good thing I have a bunch of mecgars still.

Since were on the subject of magazines everyone, does mecgar sell springs separate or should a OEM spring work fine in a mecgar mag for my p226?

There is no such thing as a "Sig factory" for mags. OEM means as supplied by the firearms manufacturer, not that the firearms manufacturer makes the mags.

Strange, it says sig factory on the packages and made in america, Sig Sauer industries. In any case, majority of them have had the mecgar, I've owned and seen a few of these ones pop up every now and then.

Even CS told me they at times produce them but they source out for most of them, depends on models, capacity and what not. But yea I double checked the mag, these are not checkmates that I've tried and owned.

Actually Sig Sauer in Germany made the actually magazines. It wasn't contracted out to another company like MecGar and just stamped with Sig Sauer on the side.

True, the Check-mate (USA mfg) oem magazines are getting mixed reviews in the Sig forum.

If they're 18 round Mecgars, I'd get the Mecgar spring (the coils taper about a quarter to halfway down to compress farther than the uniform spring). However, since they are OEM makers, Sig might sell them too (just be sure they're aware of which capacity magazine you're refurbishing).

If they're 10-15 226 mags or 10-13 228 mags, go with the Wolff equivalent. They're definitely better priced and just as (if not more) durable (depenfing if you get the +5 or 10% versions).

They are Pro-Mags. I have a bunch myself as they were the only thing I could afford back in 1995-6 (factory P228 mags were about $80-100 and MecGars were as rare as hens teeth). I have had pretty good luck with them, but have replaced all the springs with Wolfe springs as I think the biggest issues with the Pro-Mags (I also bought a bunch of Mini14 and CZs back in the day) is their weak springs.

Just swap out those springs and they should work fine for you, otherwise get yourself some SIG or MecGar rebuild kits and use those parts to rebuild them into reliable magazines.

I got a bunch of +5% springs for my 1980's era 226 magazines a few years back and they haven't missed a beat since (these were old zipperbacks that were occasionally giving me nose down ftf).
