The 1911 is a refinement of the 1905. Obviously, a 1911 could not have been made in 1903.
Nearly all John Browning designs had their "born on date'' as part of their model name.
Your buddy either thinks you are stupid, or he has less than a clue himself."A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself...A murderer is less to fear. The traitor is the plague."......CiceroComment

The hammer was exposed. It had a half cock safety and thats it. the date was 1903 for sure. The grips were super cool and said colt on them. Ill see if I cant get a pic. Now that I think of it he didnt say 1911. I just thought it was so it might not be.
The guy is a gun nut and has MANY guns. I can tell you he knows his stuff, I wish I could say the same about myself, lol Dang it I knew I should have snapped a pic.Last edited by Deadon; 01-27-2012, 5:31 PM.Lions not sheep.

Its a model 1903 hammerless. Over half a mil were made from 03 to mid 40s and you could still find them in excellent condition.Don't take refuge in the false security of consensus.
What you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of others.

I believe that those are "adopted on" dates of when they were officially adopted my the US military. I bet that every design was actually born a year or more before. So, having a M1911 prototype from 1908 or 1909 would be possible.NRA Certified Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun and Metallic Cartridge Reloading Instructor
