    Bought my first 1911 today

When I first got into guns I wanted a 1911. I saw one in a book and fell in love with the look of it. I ended up with a Beretta Px4 storm and couldn't be happier. But I always wanted a 1911.
I finally bought one today from my buddy. It is a used Thompson 1911 and right now it's in a pile of parts.
I got it for $365 its finish is good and already has the "Scratch" on it so no worries on my part.
Well 10 days I'll have it in hand... fully assembled mind you.
Now I gotta go buy some .45 ammo and some double diamond wood grips.

Congrats! I just got my first 1911 and there is just something about them that makes you grin every time you pick one up. I'm already looking at getting another in 9mm, so just like BRD, you can't have just one!

Yes, +1 on buying 9mm 1911 because it's so fun to shoot. I love my Springfield Armory 1911 9mm Loaded.

And people say drugs are addictive. The 1911 addiction is bad. I think there needs to be a support group on these threads. lol. Congrats on your new toy.

I will say this, my 1st 1911 was a piece of junk. No matter how much I spent at the gunsmith for parts and labor, or even what brand of magazine I used; it never was reliable. It was a Colt Combat Commander. Needless to say I sold it. My point is that it didn't make me dislike the platform like it could have for others. In fact, it made me enjoy the 1911 platform even more because it was a great learning experience about how the gun worked and the purpose of each and every part.

You should look into some VZ grips.

Congrats dude! You're gonna love it! I bought a Springfield TRP back in August and I'm already looking to buy another one. Probably in 9 mm if I can find one. It's truly an addiction.

Also, if you're looking for some nice grips, look into VZ Grips or Larry Davidson grips. They're both really good quality.
