1911 Recoil Spring & Recoil Buffer

So my 1911 was inherited and is pretty old. So I went ahead and ordered a new 16# spring from Springco. One end is bent so it is flat and the other is just cut raw it looks like. Then I bought a pack of buffer technology recoil buffers. The new spring works great, but if i put the plastic recoil buffer in, I can't get the slide far enough back to lock.

So either A, I just don't use the plastic recoil buffer. I just thought it might help the gun.

or B, is it possible to cut a coil off the spring?

ditch the buffer. you don't need it. The wear is minimal without the buffer.

It's obviously causing more of a major issue than it was designed for.

Yeah the "raw cut" spring end should go into your recoil spring plug, and the flat end on your short guide rod (assuming you have the GI set-up). I don't see any real wear, and plus even IF it did somehow wear to the point where the rod or plug needed replacing, its a cheap fix.

Perfect. I tried it out this weekend and it worked perfectly with the new spring. It is the GI set-up.

buffers are only good if you under sprung you pistol... Like myself running a 10lb recoil spring in my 40sw and I use Dawson Precision Aluma buffs...

But if you stay with the factory strenght you wont need a buffer...
